Dude, I'm a musician, and you can't be a "kpop star" without either a company behind you or a LOT of money, more than you'd get with a full time job... Like, you can be a musician alright, and you have to take various courses of action through training and self development, but not a kpop idol without a company... It's already incredibly difficult to make it in the kpop industry, so it's basically impossible, not to talk about all the management and the events and everything... It's 100% impossible, even if you are a complete monster of a singer/dancer (if that's the case you might get a deal with a company, but still... you'd still need the company to make it in the same world)

gapple * , you have to look at how these kpop artists originate in the first place. You obviously have an American mindset of building yourself up and there are kpop artists who sort of do that. But these artists started from an early childhood training to be in these things like an olympic athlete or a child musician. It’s harsh and is mainly their guardians decision. You don’t get the same education as other children and kpop is usually all they can depend on once they become adults. It isn’t going from a normal lifestyle to selling yourself to a company, it’s that these kpop companies are basically your life.

I love how you said "dances how almost every other yg artist dances" because that is something I have been saying for so long barring some extreme cases where she really wasn't into the performance she was dancing like any other idol dances. If you see the famous 'Up and Down' fancam of Hani she's not doing the best, sharpest moves or Na eun's fancam that blew up it's all about the attitude while you're at the front which Jennie maintained. If you do that vicious comparison edit on every idol you'll find Sehun (my bias from EXO) has also become extremely stiff over the years or D.O. doesn't dance as enthusiastically as the other members (again EXO because Idk many other groups well) but attacking them for that is hardly fair. I really doubt any idol would come out unscathed if they compared them like that except maybe Kai, Seulgi, Taemin, etc hell even BlackPink themselves do not dance the same.

I think the "lazy" phase was probably due to some personal issues(stress, maybe depression,maybe the loss of a close family member). I believe she is under too much pressure, and the public image YG has does not paint a pretty picture about what happens during closed doors. The fact that during a livestream she showed a paper she taped to the refrigerator telling the staffers to stop taking her songwriting pens and notebooks, that is not a healthy evironment for any human being, let alone a 20-something year old. I saw this one video recently of a fasign where a fan ignored Rose and skipped to Lisa I think. I noticed Jennie's expression. She was shocked and disgusted. She looked at Rose, caught her eye and smiles reassuring at her. Her expression clearly stated, "It's OK. Don't get upset. It's going to be fine." Her freaking face spoke of understanding, concern and support. How weird that such video didn't get as much attention and weren't spammed in my recommendation as the ones with "Jennie being rude to Lisa, Jennie being spoilt, Jennie being a princess" titles did. I will be honest here. To the fans who paid to watch them perform it was damn unfair to see her give a half hearted performance. But the other fans, those who didn't have the anger of lost money and disappointment clouding their judgement, had every right to defend the girl. Because even as a freaking observer that wasn't a fan I could clearly see that it didn't make any sense. She knew what was at stake, no one is that idiotic. And yet she couldn't pretend to be strong for that brief period of time. The ones who got dissapointed had a right to speak out but the ones who worried about the why also had a right to speak up. In this whole entire mess people have forgotten Jennie had moments where she showed what a good human and freaking great leader figure she was for blackpink.
