One of our subscribers pointed out the damage to the 'castellated nut' is likely to be caused by virtue of the fact that it has a thing flange that you are supposed to tap down and lock into a groove on the gearbox shaft. If the nut on your car is locked in place in this way, make sure you bend this up before undoing the nut to avoid damaging the threads.
