Dear Aigars and Krista! Such an amazing job you guys are doing. Love the persistence, hard work and dedication! 👏🏼 🌞 we (my girlfriend and I) are on a similar journey ourselves! We bought a 1977 508D, with the purpose of moving into it and travelling and we are facing the same difficulties as you are.. So it is very inspiring to see and honestly one of the reasons for going on with it, seeing you guys doing this!🌞 We have some questions regarding the proces we would love to ask you and maybe just have a chat! Can we perhaps send you an email regarding this?! Keep up the great work and content and hope to speak to you guys soon! Best regards from the Netherlands, Mauk and Daphne,

It looks SO MUCH like my van and how I had my ups and downs the last year.. :) Are you planning to weld in new gutters or leave it as an airstream?
@aigarskrista62492 ай бұрын
So far we plan to leave as an Airstream, will see how it will look when all the doors go back on as without it there might be some exposed gaps that will show the need for gutter. Adding a custom gutter wont't be an issue.

@@aigarskrista6249 Thanks for your answer! Now I have two additional questions.. :) - did you weld/attach the 'inner' gutters after cleaning them? -are you planning to add a roof rack? (Perhaps not in the gutters?).
@aigarskrista62492 ай бұрын
If by "'Inner gutter'' you mean the subframe U profile that runs between the roof/wall beams, the answer is 'No'. Roof is welded to the roof beams and side panels are welded to the wall beams, I believe that is enough structural. Having said that I have thought about how will it behave in real life road test, will there be stress on that area and my conclusion so far (without a road test) is that I should not worry due to the fact that we are planning to insulate the truck with industrial grade spray foam which will add concrete like structural strength to the whole sausage. as for the roof-rack, initially there was a plan for a roof rack, then I ditched the idea due to appearance and drag it will create. I really like the clean look of the round roof, with a roof rack thats lost. Version where it sits in the gutters did not satisfy me. So now that I have had loads of time to think about it I believe I will make reinforced roof beams at the rear section and create a tiny low profile roof platform. But I need to think hard why am I doing it and if the answer is - to climb on the roof once in a blue moon?! Is it worth it. But we are dreamers, we might aswell
