This happened to me yesterday! I dropped my wallet beneath my feet and tried to fish it out without my eyes on the road. The brake assist kicked in and slowed down my car for me before I reacted. Very impressive. 😅

I got a new CLS with this feature a month ago. Just 4 days after getting it, someone pulled out in front of me, I swerved to avoid him, but the car braked for me, totally needlessly, causing the car behind me to crash in to me. It got fixed, but a big bill. One week later, the same thing happens: I move to go past another car turning in, the car slammed the brakes on, the car behind me (also driving around the turning car) finds I have stopped and had to take evasive action to avoid another shunt. Yesterday, I went through some roadworks. It's kind of like a chicane with opposite traffic waiting to come through at the end... yep, the car thought I was going to have a head-on collision so slammed the brakes on... and again, the car behind nearly rear-ends me. HOW DO YOU TURN OFF THIS DANGEROUS ACCIDENT CAUSING FEATURE?

You can't disable it. It's turns itself back on, you have to go to the settings every time you start the car. It isn't just annoying, it's a safety hazard.

Yadu Ab it has sensors on the back that sense a rear end collision. It tightens the seat belts, adjust head rests, and closed windows. Lessens severity.

I have a V Class 2017 with this system on it and it's a pure hit and miss. I never managed yet (3k km) to see it break automatically, only the red light on (in many cases that fails too). Comparing it with my Transcend 220 dashcam, the dashcam beeps more often when approaching front vehicles or switching lanes. Marketing stunt.

TCAS needs improvement and should be made as evasive maneouver. Imagine an aircraft with unaware or untrained (trainee or random) pilot ordered or trying to do a go around & another plane is circling around right in front of him preparing for landing. The plane does not have 1000 feet room and time to avoid collission from incoming traffic or drone or anything. In this case, plane should turn left and order other plane to turn right (evasive something fighter pilots do during air shows), if its a drone, just kill its systems. Would it be possible to turn on reverse thruster on one engine to make the evasive maneouver more quicker? If the collision is unavoidable, it should take the hit at the least vulnerable part. Plus imagine some sensor malfunctions at that moment.

Infiniti has the best collision mitigation system. As it will tell you if the car in front of the car in front of you has braked hard. In can basically sense two cars ahead.

This is a standard feature. More advanced safety features on Mercedes like "Distronic Plus" use more advanced radar.

James SEZ It isn't standard, but it's nearly impossible to find a new S class without Distronic. I'm surprised you are putting Infiniti in the same conversation as the S class. Also, keep in mind that Mercedes pioneered a lot of the modern day tech that you see in vehicles. They are the only vehicle manufacturer with over 100k patents.
