You can tell the EQS when NOT to charge rather than telling it when you can charge. I have mine set to 8AM to 11PM. It's a big reason why I wish I could assign the other charging settings to the Home/Work program mode. I know all about regrets as an early adopter. I got one of the first 2021 Model S refreshes and the car was plagued with power problems and Tesla eventually bought it back 6 months later. Then I got the EQS 450+ with a horrible dealership markup, but I needed to replace the Model S right away and I wanted a luxury EV. The EQS died 8 months later due to a software bug! It took them over 50 days to figure it out, but by that time Mercedes agreed to buy it back, too. Man, being an early adopter can suck. But you know what doesn't suck when buying from Mercedes, the support of the dealership. My dealership put me in a new EQS 580 with a bunch of upgrades for the same price I paid for the 450+, much of that difference paid for by the markup. My dealership wanted to ensure I continued to do business with them. Tesla could care less about me being a returning customer - they cut me a check and told me if I wanted a new car, I could get at the back of the 6 month line. Great video. Thanks for being frank with us, especially at the end.

Sorry to hear about your troubles no matter which car you had. Hopefully smooth sailing from here. I am thinking to lease my EQE SUV. This way, I can get the $7,500 from MB. I can always trade or give it back at the end of the lease if things aren’t right. I can keep it and buy it at the residual price (which would already be discounted by the $7,500). I am hoping it will be a win/win in the long run.

Well I have one of the first production 580's ever delivered. Best car ever made. Aside from minor MBUX "burps" the first few mths, the car has been utterly reliable, never requiring service, except for a single visit for software updates. 6 foot riders fit perfectly in the rear. As expected given the size there is an overabundance of legroom in the rear. Headroom in the rear is only tight if you are over 6 feet tall. Ultra fast, ultra comfotable, ultra quiet. As an EV, it charges fast has up to 400 miles range. BTW it is faster and handles better than the S class. It also has a more comfortable ride than a modern S class. I think the reviwer is thinking of an 80's S class with 16 inch wheels, all cars with ultra large wheels will seem a hrher on potholes than those cars. And yes, the rear is not as "sumptuous" as a regular S class, the car is not meant to be a limo and like most S classes the rear seat is empty or used by people shorter than 6 ft for 99% of the time.

Another early adopter EQS450+ owner here with 20k miles on it. Zero issues with my ride. Design was questionable for me before the purchase, but it really grew on me since. Very classy and unique look on the road full of generic looking (to me) Teslas when it comes to EV world. Ride quality is exceptional and it is quieter than the S-class for obvious reasons. I did own the Model S back in 2012 which I actually paid $10k more for than my EQS. The only benefit of Tesla was that it was faster. The rest was far FAR inferior: built, ride, interior, range, reliability - you name it. Absolutely love that I can drive 320 miles from Vegas to San Diego non-stop and still have 16% left on my battery upon arrival where with Model S I had to stop for an hour to charge. I test drove some rivals (Taycan, Lucid) - nothing compares in price/value IMHO. Give it a strong consideration if you want an electric S-class type of vehicle that does not need any service (air filter every 20k miles lol) and does an equivalent of 100 miles per gallon.

Thank you for this update. New things I learned. I just ordered an EQE SUV 4 MATIC. It gives lots of info. I agree, MB should have made the back seat a little roomier for the EQS. We as Mercedes EQ owners will have the best of all things charging. I have a blue EQE and I love everything about it. @@EQS-Owner The ideal case would be retrofitting the “correct” charge port. Having the standard change within a month of purchasing it feels a bit like being stuck with beta revision of the car. So a free adapter would soften the blow of Mercedes changing their mind so soon after release. I have wanted an electric vehicle for a while, but felt Tesla build quality in particular was not up to German/Japanese standards. And assumed when Mercedes finally released electric vehicles, they could be trusted to be reliable and solid. And mine has been to date. But my charge port is already out of date.

I have one of the early 2022 EQS580s and have been driving it for the past 16 months. While I love many of the features, I do get frustrated by some of the nagging little problems that have resulted in me taking the car to the dealership 6 different times. After 2 trips for this issue, my driver side window often will still not close automatically as it hits the normal top and immediately retreats to 1/2 open. After many tries I am forced to manually raise it 3 or 4 times, stopping just short of completely closed. After driving a few miles, I can then close it. The dealer has been unable to fix it completely, although it now happens less frequently. My front cameras were not working properly and required the dealer to replace the bracket that must have arrived from the factory bent. Yesterday my rear camera stopped working altogether. I stopped by the dealership and they could not immediately fix the problem so I go back to service next week. I am beginning to see why Mercedes rates so low with owner satisfaction regarding reliability. My previous Audi A8 was bullet proof. I hope additional luxury electric vehicles are available when my lease expires because I cannot see myself owning this car when it is out of warranty.

Thanks for the review. I have to say that for a first owner, whilst under warranty, if there are any technology issues at least hopefully they will sort them out with no cost, just perhaps inconvenience. The problem will be for the 2nd or 3rd owner if it goes wrong. Back in the day I had an old AMG C43 as the 2nd owner and had it for several years. It had problems with the technology, such as the electric sunroof stopping opening fully, drivers door mirror not working, the LCD display on the air con backlight failing so could not see it at night. But I just ignored all those and still enjoyed driving it. With modern technology such as adaptive cruise control, braking, steering assist or even just getting into the car you cannot just live with it. The other issue with BEV cars at the moment is the technology on the battery and charging side is moving on so quick I wonder when these current EV cars will in effect be obsolete as not enough range or fast charging. A diesel engine 10 years back still gives similar mpg and "fills up" similar to a brand new one. So that increases the longevity of the car and people who can only afford a $5000 -$10 000 car still get something similar on performance and range to a new one, just without the gizmos. I wouldn't want to buy this EQS in 9 years time considering the range and charging compared to what will be availble then for a 3 year old EV car in 2032. I'd pay more for the younger car. Even without the worry with reliability. These cars are driving dinosaurs. I only trust the Japanese for electrics as well, maybe the Koreans. Certainly not any European manufacturer, and I come from the UK. Drive a Toyota now.... The german car manufacturers seem to be just adding more and more gizmos to keep their software engineers busy and outdoing the other german manufacturers. The old addage "If it hasn't got it, it cannot go wrong" is being stress tested. Air vents with motors so you can adjust them from a menu?? Seems a solution to a problem that does not exist. How did we manage before ????? All the best with this car and your next one.

I am looking at the 2026 model as the next possible model year for me. That is the year they are coming out with the MBOS and they should be in the 2nd generation design. I've now made several trips to Orlando and back (1,100 miles round trip). I use the NAV system, apps by Electrify America, ChargeHub and PlugShare, and Google Maps to figure out the places to charge for free (Electrify America). during the trip, I realized I had more stops available than I needed, so I now have 2 stops going up and back, with a charger in Orlando and other options if needed. Good review. I have the EQS SUV so the problems you have doesn’t apply for me. Like getting in and out of the car. You can tell the car when you charge. However, Mercedes decided to call it something else. It’s called ‘Pause’. You just tell the EQ when you don’t want to change. As for the charging port. Mercedes isn’t going to charge the port. There’s going to be two options. First is an adapter you can purchase. Like when Teslas want to use J1772 chargers. Vice versa. Second, Tesla super chargers are going to be equipped with special charging cables for EVs that use J1772.

And one thing I react to is that you say you can't schedule charging, because you can. But it is a bit different you schedule a pause for the charging. I own a EQS 580 and I will be posting my first KZbin video about it as I have found it to be that badly designed. I have a Tesla model Y and except for the ride, a much better car in my opinion. They obviously thought they didn’t have to check out a Tesla, no dog mode and no way to really back into it. We are on a 5000 mile trip and I want to not drive it another day ship it home. We have been in Joplin Mo for 4 hours try to get enough charge to get Dallas with 30%. The non Tesla charging system is awful. 1/2 don’t work or broken. MB doesn’t seem to be committed enough to the program to at least make their dealers have a fast charger. I drive my wife is perpetually on the phone trying to verify chargers are working. The other day Charge America had 8 lines, 7 weren’t working. If you want this car to drive in a very controlled environment then buy but if you take it on the you will probably be sorry. Today CA in Joplin and there is no cover for the screens hard to read, 2-3 down. No standardization and we used a new system, had to call them and they said to leave the car off while charging. 100 degrees and over an hour. Then we still can’t get to Dallas and the chargers are mostly 6 watt. If you are going to travel don’t buy this or any other EV in my opinion. 580-150K and you really only can use 200 miles of range with the safety margins you need for the poor system. I have tried to get in touch with MB, to no avail. I will cover the true and the lot of bad in my review. I think my wanting to pay for shipping it to Fl to sell and rent anything to get home says volumes. I would not let anyone I cared about drive this vehicle as it takes a pilot and a navigator checking for chargers, unless you want to be towed after running out.

When I bought it, dealerships were paying above MSRP to buy them back. The used value is a market thing. It will eventually settle down (part of the early adopter risks). The batteries are covered for 150,000 miles - and made by Mercedes - so I am not overly worried.

The fact that the price to replace the battery when out of warranty is 60k make me stay away from these lmao. Also horror stories of brakes failing due to "electrical issues" doesn't really make it easier, especially knowing someone that almost died and got his first eqs totaled because of this exact issue. Hell no, I happily drive an S class gasser. If an electric for longer range is REALLY needed, BYD and NEO beat these by miles in everything (maybe not inside luxury, but its very close). Just facts, too much chinese government money behind those that really made them affordable, something a normal company couldn't pull off without going bankrupt.

One of your stanger videos. Seemed like you were fishing or searching for issues. Seats to hard to enter? Door sill too high for the feet? Ever tried entering a mclaren? You do not have to press the off button when departing. Locking the car does it for you. As a 9 year tesla owner now EQE owner I enjoy the on button. I also enjoy the tech. If you change your wall box to a teisen brand you can set charge time, adjust amps, and self charge from spare solar.

I thought I would do something different and spend one video focused on the negative comments I've heard and the challenges passengers have had getting in the front. Not comparing the EQS to a sports car or truck, just to the S-Class. I could have sworn the manual said to turn the car off (not just lock the doors) and I have read dozens of complaints from other owners - which is where most of the topics came from. My Wallbox is terrific! I can schedule charges and it allows me to set the price per kWh then tells me how much each charge costs and shows me daily, monthly, and yearly kWhs charged and how much it cost. I figure the CCS ports will be good through at least 2030, but felt it was worth mentioning as part of the changes made following initial product introductions (think original iPhone vs iPhone 4). I do appreciate your thoughts and input - that's part of why I do this.

I liked the frankness of the video. So many car owners portray their new purchases in the best light possible. We have to realize that an S-level Mercedes has a certain demographic... they may not have the most flexibility. I will say that the Tesla has the better technology stack, it's more intuitive. There were things that annoyed me about the EQS that I took for granted on my earlier Teslas - but after a month, I soon forgot... things like having to switch to strong recuperation. Although having to turn the car off is still very annoying because the car doesn't make it clear that you turned it off, at least not until you open the door to leave. But the one thing I don't miss about the Tesla is its lack of quality and luxury a car of its price demands.

I am actually on a 2 year lease for my EQS SUV. I calculated that with the offer (they had the $7500 credit for leasing), and with residual value at the end of the lease, vs. purchasing it at 3.99% they offered, I think it still made sense to lease. Even if I want to keep it and purchase it at the end of lease, I think I'll just be paying a couple thousands more compared to purchasing it from the beginning. So far I like it very much, I think I'll buy it at the end of lease, depending on the actual market prices in 2 year's time I guess.

They also have a special paint primer to make it more robust to stone chips. EV are all way too heavy with the battery weight and they don’t corner quite like an ice car. But they certainly are smooth, very comfortable with air suspension and the 4 wheel steering makes it very to manoeuvre when parking. Got to admit the steering wheel functionality is poor. But tech in general is sublime. MBUX systems can sometimes lag or be unresponsive at times. I didn’t go Eqs, I went amg eqe. Still £120k in uk or probably $150k. Only took a year to get but the 2024 model did have a lot of improvements. Set the seat once then with your finger print it adjust the seat for you. You shouldn’t need to use after that, but I have to admit I do get your point with zero movement. Don’t know what the ones at the side of the seat are either. Air suspension is great tho and the 4 wheel steering. App is great and ambient lighting is great.
