Yeah. I think it's just a personal choice. I had ml also. Horrible vehicle. Design is just awful, bmw X5 is much better. Comfortable? Not so much. Switched to X5. Just a second i drove X5 i understood the meaning of pleasant driving of BMW. BMW always takes in account for everything. Sure, X5 loses off-road, but idc, cuz that's not where i live. I live in civilized city :)

I have both and the Benz is mush better to drive in the winter then the 5. The 5 is nicer to drive and more power but I just got back from taking my ml 320 off roading and it didn't get stuck in 3 feet of snow .The 5 is way to heavy in deep snow or mud .

In 2021 the E70 with the 6 proved to last. The early N63 gave it a bad rep, avoid 50i variant.

Have Ml320 2001 and is done 280,000 and still going, with ML you don't need a pricy mechanic to fix your ML because everything is pretty easy to fix by yourself. And with X5 good luck in replacing your faulty headlight lamp, it would need more than a mechanic to replace it, and sale it before it reaches 180,000 or you will have nightmares when you drive it. lol I know that coz my bro has X5.

Just picked up a 2000 ml 320. Needs a lube on un used transfer case plus low range switch in dash plus the chain slips a tooth so needs $150 transfercase chain. Plus leaky sunroof damage repair unplugging pillers & removing front fenders to remove plastic tubes grommets. Stereo, phone, navigation,& stereo needs simple fix to work. AC needs recharging etc, uh windshield linkage is in need of cleaning for passenger side to work again, uh...oh yeah windshield washer pump under front bumper needs repair...uh

ML320 is amazing. I had one, but I had to sell it because I didn't need it, now I have a C250 CDI and a 240GD.

The first generation ML was based on body on frame construction with all independent suspension. It was a true all road SUV only after the G wagen.

i just had a baby and bought an ML350. it felt nice inside, plush, comfortable. plenty of room in the back seat for baby. nice cargo area. great ride to pick up my friends/business people. i like the bmw as well. but the interior was a bit colder/staid. but it was faster / handled more like sports car. but also part of what i don't like about bmw is that every tom dick and harry has one in LA (where i live). many people who don't know jack about cars or who don't have any class (or any originality) but simply want to get a cool ride to impress people will just default to a bmw. many of these people are douche bags. so, by association it's resulted in a negative connotation (an unintended negative marketing effect) and that's partly why i can't bring myself to buy a bmw. mercedes also somewhat suffers from this... but the ML less so as I don't see a ton of MLs on the road and it has a bit of a toned down attitude (which I like). if i want a sports car i will buy a porsche. keep sports and luxury separate.

Ive had both, and all the repair bills on x5 in the time I had it compared to the ml was incredible. loved the x5, but the ml has been better in every department for me personally. But when all is said and done its personal experience and taste that's the decision maker.

@@Dominic6382 BMW, more things went wrong and it cost more to fix, one of the worst aspect of the x5 is its rotting suspension mounts when it get older, and valve seals drying out, not to mention coolant pipe at the back of the v8 has a habit of bursting and throwing coolant everywhere if its never been changed. Still a great car though, just some of the design doesnt stand the test of time unlike the mercedes.

How will either one of these do when out of it's lease? I've heard of many BMWs, including the X5s falling apart before even reaching 100K miles, but Mercedes to a much lesser extent. Any car manufacturer can make a vehicle that will be reliable for a few years, but what's more revealing is how it will do post 100k and 10, 15, 20 years down the road.

Seconds after the video starts I pause to post brief comment & an ad starts, seconds. My 2000 ml 320 currently has driverside door lock actuator issues locking me out with snow forecast. I wouldn't recommend buying a ml since the key don't open the dang doors...neither does the fob... How can I get in without damaging a window to manually acess the interior center console window switches? No don't buy an ml...

I have myself ML320 but X5 is better I can prove it. one they April 1, 2008 I was driving ML320 3004 edition and my friend was driving 2004 X5, he is a fun of X5 I like ML, he made sharp round turn with x5 and continued straight without any problems, when my ML lost the way, Brakes automatically stopped I hardly did maneuver. In comfort Ml may be better, but not in motion...

I think this test was accurate. I drive an ML320 CDI. Like all MB SUV's, it is a great offroad performer. It does however have drawbacks like too light of steering, too soft suspension, and a clunky transmission. When it comes to quality and offroad capabilities, BMW cannot match Mercedes-Benz. But the same does not apply when it comes to onroad performance where BMW's really shine. Onroad performance, the BMW wins hands down. I prefer MB to BMW any day though. They're just better vehicles.

I currently drive a 2006 E90 320d with manual transmission. Strong M47 Diesel engine is good, and it handles great, but its comfort and luxury sucks. Heavy steering, seats with no lumbar, pedals too close together, manual six speed gearbox is stiff and notchy, ride quality is firm. Great for the race track but not so nice every day in the real world. So next time I will get an Automatic Mercedes-Benz. I imagine the same is kinda true for X5 and ML.

The mercedes is a really good car and the BMW is too but when you buy a SUV you are looking for the off road quality...I prefer the Mercedes because is much better on off road and is sportive but maybe the BMW isn't in off road like the mercedes but it's very and I think is much sportier. I:N music I've owned both cars, I agree with your comments. Driving, it's more rewarding and enjoyable in the X5. But overall usage, the ML wins. More utilitarian and in the end, has slightly better resale too. Though, both take a big hit in depreciation, thus, are good cars to buy second hand, but look for good ones.
