Changing out brake pads on your Mercedes ML step by step. Simple maintenance for all you Do-it-yourself types out there. Save money and keep your vehicle operating at its best. Disclaimer If you follow these instructions you do so at your own risk, I do not assume liability. If you are an accident waiting to happen, you probably want to have someone else do this!

Many thanks for clear and simple instructions. Many instructional clips seem to me to be the author wanting to show off their end product, rather than helping others get there. This one just tells me what I need to know. Thank you!

Many thanks. I thought I have to remove the 2 caliper bolts before I can removed the pads, but this video showed me that it was not necessary. Very helpful and thanks again.

thank you Sir you are absolutely right that was the easiest job I have done on my car ever! In fact removing and installing the tyres was more hard than the actual change of the brake pads :-) thank you again you have saved me £240 - the garage was asking for £300 in total I bought the front and rear pads pads for £60 :-)

Yes the brakes are easy but I hope you dont have to replace the rear shocks on your car, you have less than 1/2 inch to take the top screws off and on. I will go to the MB dealership and I hope they can tell me what tool to use to take them off or I have to find a kid with small fingers to take them off. Great brake video again!!!

Actually, yes you can! Pads generally wear out faster. A little observation when changing brakes will tell you if you A. Leave rotors alone, B. Remove and resurface or C. Remove and replace.

@RayVal53

Andy Rogers No sir... You avoid a mess that way... Just dont forget to pump the brake pedal plenty of times to regain pressure.

I did them this weekend. Granger has the tool to spread the pads everyone else makes you order it online and ship to store. your video was perfect! Oh I have a 98 e430 too any videos for both are appreciated. Ps any thoughts on check engine light on ml500? had codes read they said gas cap, evap or fuel pressure sensor bought gas cap didn't cut off. do you have to reset by disconnecting battery or dose it do like the others and cut off after so many trips like other older benzes? Also thanks for showing that took it was so much easier having it. 24.95 At granger..

Hey Markus! Glad you got the tool, it works on many Mercedes models, including W116 and W123! A few years ago when gas was stupid expensive here we took a road trip from California to Texas and used all 87 octane gas. CEL kept coming on, after 2 fill ups with premium it went away. That could possibly be a solution.

Dude, i just changed the pads and im still getting the lights and beeping noise when i brake . Im thinking its the pad sensors any thoughts?
@RayVal53
@RayVal53 7 жыл бұрын
It could be the sensors. If the little pin that goes into the actual brake pad was worn, it will be especially sensitive to vibration. You can try troubleshooting by taking them out 1 at a time until you figure out which wire is faulty, or you could just go ahead and order all 4 new ones and completely rule that out as an issue. Did you tighten everything sufficently when restoring the system?
@Wiseguywithav

So I needs that brake pad tool separator? Or can I just take off the whole caliper and use a C-clamp to push the piston back in?
@RayVal53
@RayVal53 12 жыл бұрын
I havent used a c-clamp since I got rid of my '99 ML-320, but I dont see why you couldnt use one... The Vulcan brake tool just makes it that much easier.

What about for a 2002 Mercedes ml500
@RayVal53
@RayVal53 7 жыл бұрын
It should be the same for the later generation W163 chassis. Carefully remove one of the tires and look at the caliper. If it looks like this one, you are good to go, but generally brake jobs are pretty easy! Happy driving!

Well to be accurate, NO car EVER lasts forever. That being said, The W116 in my other videos was 34 years old and would have kept going but for a stupid teen texting on her phone... This W163, ive put through hell and its still running strong. It will be a decade old come April. Routine preventative maintenance makes a world of difference and is highly predictable, unlike other drivers.
