P0170 can also be the faulty O2 or oxygen sensor.. Also, dont get any of those non Bosch brand MAF from Ebay ranging around $25-$80 because you will end up getting more problems in the end.

The reason the sensor needs cleaning is due to that oil. The oil is coming up due to blocking of the secondary air system nozzles which are behind the inlet manifold. MB dealer will supply the pcv valve, hoses and gaskets required for about £50. Easy job. If you dont do this, you will be cleaning or changing MAF more often.

If you want to stop oil from clogging up the Intercooler, MAF sensor and inlet manifold. For reasons unknown Mercedes thought it'd be a good idea to place a tiny hose in between the camshaft cover vent and the oil air separator. if you follow this tiny hose down, it'll lead you to the "discharge" side of the supercharger. this is where all the oil finds its way into the inlet manifold. but if you remove, and cap both ends, you'll never have an oil contamination issue again.

Good instructional video. I cleaned my MAF sensor on my E class and got another 4-5 mpg. It hadn't been touched since first installed in 1995. A couple of things I would do next time is buy a new sealing ring as they distort a bit and respray the connecting plug which is worth doing.Transforms an old car. I used the Halford product and its fine. £3.99.

All SLK230 "shake" at 4000 rpm in neutral or park - inherent design - to stop the supercharger boosting when the engine is off load

The filter screens are actually quite easy to remove. There is a small gap into which you can insert a small screwdriver and gently prise it out the outer screen the inner mesh then should fall out with a small tap on a flat surface note position of the flat sprung washer.

I just spray maf cleaner right on the sensor while its still attached to the throttle body, let it evaporate and start it up, saves a lot of time.

Use the mass sensor spray clean gunks inside the MAF itself in both directions. Wait for it to dry. Spray the electrical connector with OD electrical spray. Reinstall the unit

I have a 1998 Mercedes slk 230 when I put my car in the on position my radiator fan turns on at full blast and doesn't turn off and doesn't let the car start at all. I have noticed that my car has been doing this at random times for the past couple months But it always started up in a couple minutes after the fan Stop. I have been looking into forums and they say it could be my mass flow air sensor BUT my check engine light never popped up only when I disconnected the sensors plug it did can you help -thanks

Hey. Thanks for the very good video. I just went to do mine. It’s a 2002 SLK200 KOMPRESSOR. Does this model have a MAF? I looked where you said and there doesn’t appear to be one. Not seeing the power connector either. I’m pretty sure it must have one though. The removal could be the cause of the really bad fuel consumption? While looking, I see rats had made a nest next to the fuse box. They have chewed through a wire or two, which could explain the ESP/BAS and ABS lights. They’ve pretty much removed the foam insulate.

Aaron, i have a slk 200k from 2001, so its slightly differant but my question is, im not quite understanding how the maf sensor and throttle body is on one side of the engine, but the air filter is in the other side ?? Can you explain to me whats going on ??

At the start you stated you seen a lot of questions in forums so you thought you'd do a video. I have a clk200 w209 (55plate) and couldn't enven remove the sensor due to hard to reach screws. Do you have a video or can do one or point me in the direction based on the clk200 kompressor engine?

Would it be wise to remove the sensors from the MAF tube, its only 2 screws and I can put it in a glass so it doesn't touch the wire/sensors. I want to give it a really good clean? Any thoughts?

I clean the mass was ok for 6 month after begin again PO 170 i buy cheap one to be sure my trouble was the mass now is going very well ....maybe buy a good one but seem to go well

my slk runs but will not rev more than 2000 revs and misses badly when u try to drive faster. my dealer says its the magnet on supercharger and needs new compressor. but sometimes it runs perfect. could it possibly be the k40 relay or would that have anything to do with it please help if u can.. george

Man did you call it! I got one from eBay last week due to a P0170 code even though my car had no performance issues. Immediately after installing (correctly btw) car drops idle on start up, hesitates on acceleration, runs rough & actually brought code P0400 up which is the EGR malfunction. Could this be due to cheap MAF sensor? I have the old one (Bosch) I can clean & re-install. Is this new code a coincidence or directly related to the cheap sensor? Non of this occurred until the cheap sensor.

I had intermittent engine light on for a month then car loose power. I got it diagnostic code P0170. Repair shop told me it's MAF and MB forum said same thing. I cleaned it with CRC but still don't feel that the car is back to the original power before this happens. I changed air filter. Do you think anything else could be the cause? Also when at the iddle position, I push on the acceleration, the needle go up 40 then it start shaking. What would be the cause? let me know if you know. thx

It makes the engine hesitate, especially when fully pressing the gas pedal. It feels like some kind of misfire, but only under load (may rev up freely when stationary), and it rarely sets a fault code in the ECU.

Under the air cleaner near the rear of the engine. The MAF screen should be visible upon removing the air filter/intake unit.

Why didnt you clean the pipe that goes down into the air filter? also why didnt you take the top hose off and clean that too? it wasnt a very thorough job was it.
