MB W123 300D 1981 88PS (the later type, eats doesn't eat more than 10l / 100km) - original engine till ~1.300.000km then fully recovered, right now ~1.400.000km on board and plans to run it for the next 30 years. Note that the counter blowed up requiring intervention instead of cycling through the million. Designers probably didn't plan running a miliion :D Will bring some videos as well.

Kudos to the W123! the test with the sidewind would had blowed away the passat and golf of the same era. the test on nimbleness (small turning radius) had outperformed the much smaller fiat 127 and ritmo. and any other thing the test of the brakes well that was supreme, unbeatable! still today it stands tall. this car outscored any car available on any front (except performance) and was a dream to drive. I reccomand it as an oldtimer
@jakefiersing9 ай бұрын
Golf1 was nearly as goodas the w123 according to sidewind stability, 1,9m. I assume the Passat1 should had been close to that as well, because its technique has been even better than in the Golf1.

52,60 m Bremsweg?

@coolakiIlen007 Notice there were 2 types of W123, according to the part list available with each parts supplier, the earlier one (iirc before 1978) and the later one after '78 with more PS (88) and probably better avg fuel combustion. IIRC the difference was a slightly different shape of cylinders.

@Nomasain You are comparing a car, with the aerodynamics of a brick, a 5 cylinder oilburner first introduced in 1974 with a 4 speed manual gearbox with a 21ste century car? Its like comparing apples with pears! That mustang v8 is great, but it is a car designed with completely different technology. It isn't hard to make a new petrol powered car more fuel efficient, we have the technology! But when the 300D was introduced, it pioneered passenger diesel technology and pushed it to a new level!

12,1l/100km? Seriously? My V8 and V12 gasoline BMWs drink the same or less. That's crazy! I know they're newer, but a 70s or 80s BMW with the M30 I6 engine drinks about the same and they are a lot faster, smoother and better sounding. Don't get me wrong, the W123 is a great car and the diesel motor run forever, but they are too slow, too noisy and drink as much as their gasoline contenders...
@lolatmyage10 жыл бұрын
Im guessing thats the price you pay to have a tank engine in your normal everyday car. Plus I think 10l/100 or less is definitely achievable if cruising in top gear near idle. You can also run these engines on vegetable oil which can be completely free depending on where you get it from.
