People need to remember that it is still a truck and not a freaking SUV. Compared to other trucks it is good but it is missing some safety tech. It is a excellent truck and I would like to see a a other brands come up with something better but for now it is the most luxurious truck.

Well the X-Class is already very competitive in the range and similar in price. The only reason you wouldn't buy one is because of badge snobbery. Honestly, I see 1000x more badge snobs AGAINST the Benz, than you do people who are fans of the Mercedes, talking down other cars.

I don't mean you at all, just in general, there are many who are snobbish. I think the car is vastly different to the Nissan, I've been underneath both the X and the Nissan. IMO the X-Class is improved in every way except the turning circle, it's a class leading product.

i have a ranger wildtrak, im thinking of swapping for one of these. the 3.2 engine in the wildtrak is awful and the build quality is...well....its a ford.

What sort of tradie will buy/lease a $70k work vehicle with so much quality competition for $40-$50k? That will probably also be cheaper come service/repair time. Or is their target market the boss or the sales guy who goes to site to quote rather than the guy on the tools?

Utes aren’t a tradie vehicle anymore as seen in the sales numbers here in Australia. And just because there are cheaper vehicles out there doesn’t mean there isn’t a market for the high end stuff. I mean the c class sells relatively well even though there cheaper mid-sized sedans out there. I don’t think Mercedes are targeting are targeting volume numbers.

haha! Stop living up to your name Rsoul. I grew up on a property, the closest 'town' was only 300 people. You were either a farmer or a tradie. 10 years ago before the PK Ranger no one considered a dual cab ute as a family vehicle. They do these days. Of course a tradie is going to use a ute, but more and more people are buying these as an all purpose family vehicle.

I’m a massive Merc fan. I’ve owned a 2004 C~class since new. As well as a 2010 C-class. Both are beautiful machines and both have completely different drives. A friend owns the CLS63 AMG.... Again, breathtaking machine. However. The G class has a cult following. You’re either into the old military version for proper 4x4 enthusiasts or you live your life through the Kardashian’s eyes and have the new impractical version which you’d never ever take off road. But I can understand why people buy the G class. Personally, as a UTE/Truck/bakkie driver and small business owner I’ve always wanted a luxury pickup. Why must we have bench seats, why can’t we have lane assist and screens and heated seats, and massage seats...why can’t we have the creature comforts? I was hoping Merc had the answer, I thought the Merc X-Class was going to be the next car shot into space to chase down Elon’s Tesla. But sadly, I feel they missed the mark by such a long way that it’s unforgivable. They could have done something great. Instead, the dipped their big toe into the pickup market by using Nissan Parts... it’s a half arsed attempt to see if it would sell. Why buy a Nissan from Mercedes? Rather buy a Nissan and have a custom interior done. But that’s what you’re buying with an Xclass. Frankly the only real luxury pickup/truck is the Ford F-150? Just wish they made it in right hand drive... When I see an Xclass pass on by, I can’t help but hear BA saying “pitty the fool!”

Did you know that the Mercedes ML (predecessor to the GLE) was officially known as the "M-Class," but the "L" was added to prevent the model designations (such as ML350) from being too similar to BMW "M" models?

What people dont realise is this is Mercedes first time in this market and the first product theyre coming out with. Platform sharing is used by everyone so that doesnt really matter but its what a company like Mercedes can produce and what its capable of producing is what scares the competition. Im not a fanboy by any means but I hate people bashing a vehicle, fondly enough, not many have tried or driven. Give it a chance and I know if Mercedes do put work into the interior, exterior and engine for the future, they can produce something beautiful and capable

Generally the people who do the bashing cant even afford the Ford Ranger. Same was said for the Amarok & are still selling a fair share of the market. I would want to see the sales numbers of Toyota once you take out the numbers of mine site & rental fleet buyers.Personally i drive the Navara STX550 & will probably keep it for a little bit longer as it has been faultless since 2015

All these salty people here commenting about "why whould you even buy this unless for the Merc logo, or, there are more utes out there that is just significantly better than this, and things like that" and maybe your right, but, you also got to keep in mind that THIS IS THE FIRST TIME, Mercedes-Benz actually made and sold a pick-up truck internationally, they had to of course start from scratch, because they really don't have that much of an idea how to build a pick-up truck, your comparing Mercedes-Benz to something like Toyota or Ford who had significantly had more experience than Mercedes-Benz in building a pick-up truck they of course focused more on will this FIRST pick-up truck that they made reliable enough to be sold internationally than focusing on looks and design and overall creative thinking, so stop the hates, if you don't like it, just shut up about it, its like basically cursing words at someone who bumped you on the road due to wreckless driving but just found out that he/she is actually a first time student driver comparing yourself that you are already a veteran driver with 10 year above of experience, your just showing yourself how shallow of a person you are.
