Mercedes C111 | Drive it!

When Germany's baby-boomer generation was young, the legendary C111 was the vision of the automotive future. This spacey car, in the bright orange so popular in the 1970s, was a testing ground for Wankel and diesel engines, and turbochargers. Mercedes achieved the downforce needed to hug the road at high speed without any spoilers -- solely through its wedge-shaped aerodynamic design.

Not selling the C111 Mercedes to the public was a huge mistake for Mercedes. If they had, they would have a winning legend, no matter what kind of motor it had!!!!

i know about this C111 since 1983 during michael jackson 'beat-it' era. Almost resembe to Maserati Merak.

"plastic doesn't buckle, it snaps"... a reason to not manufacture? BULL! Corvette was doing just fine for nearly 20 years before C-111 and has continued uninterrupted for almost 50 years since... WITH A FIBERGLASS BODY! The fact that the weasel narrator doesn't want to confront is, that the reason this magnificent car was never produced is because Mercedes didn't have a Zora Arkus Duntov, with the vision and clout to get it done. Period. Chevrolet 1, Mercedes 0.
