Mercedes CLS 550 63 W218 Panamericana AMG GT-R style Grill upgrade

What's up KZbin and Mercedes fans! This is my new channel for 2021!
My grill swap was not easy at all...lol But I am very happy with the outcome!
I highly recommend adding a mesh screen behind the GT grill! There is a class action taken by AMG owners against Mercedes-AMG with the issue of rock chips and debris flying in the grill inlets and damaging the radiator causing it to leak and the car to overheat!

But FYI, those of us that change to this grill can not hold Mercedes-AMG liable.

just did my cls550. all black black emblem painted the wire with black rust protectant paint. thank you so much for the video i've literally watched this 10 times!!!! FYI it's a WHOLE DAY JOB. make sure you have someone to help you put the bumper back on... i started around 5PM finished just now roughly midnight here. WORTH it if you have patience and take your time.

@@samln5019 How has the CLS been treating you reliability wise?

@@slanina1 Very well even after having All the tunes done to it, you just got to stay on top of maintenance, change the spark plugs, use the best brand gas, oil changes, etc.. and the car will still remain totally reliable, Even though it's my daily driver I don't drive it daily, Because I work from home mostly, and not a far drive to the office.

Heyy Thanks so much!! At first, after buying the GTR grill, I was thinking the same thing that it was a simple replacement like the w219 because I have a w219 as well! and that grill is easy!! But when I took off the front end I was like ohh wow!!...lol This took me ALL day because there were no videos I could find that would help the process go easier, The mesh came from home depot in a large sheet, you will need metal cutting scissors as well.

Nice cls inspired me to change my grill as well appreciate it and the content. I’m having a hard time figuring out which emblem would work since the old one doesn’t fit. Can you guide me to where you might have got that one ? Or maybe a link any help I would be greatly appreciated

Hello and thank you so much!! I am not sure why your original grill emblem doesn't fit? I did not have that problem, you might want to try to fit again because normally the new GTR grill is designed to fit and accept the original emblem, And that's what you see in this video. Try clocking the emblem correctly

How did you get your MB star off the grill? I want to remove my grill to paint it so your vid was super helpful, but just wondering about the star removal.

You can remove the star by turning it counterclockwise with a bit of force, You can also remove the center blade grill cover by pulling it off with some force, you would have to remove the front bumper to remove the entire grill, I just remove the star only and mask tape and cover the front of the car to paint both top and bottom original grills, Thanks!!

Heh me again ; I bought a 2013 CLS550 with the same grill on it as the one you just installed. Did you have trouble lining up the front bumper when you put it back on. Mine seems a little loose and on the passenger side and the space between the hood and bumper is greater than the space on the driver's side. Just wondering if you had any problems lining it up again .

Hey, when I re-installed my bumper it was a bit loose because the bumper gets stressed a bit during dismantling in that top area, and the original rivets are removed, Also the new grill's top locking tabs that fasten back to the car are not the best, So some improvising was needed, i.e. using more fasteners like rivets or flat head screws in that top area to make that gap tighter, And to add they normally have an oversized gap between the hood and the bumper to begin with, hope this helps? Hey buddy, I just bought the same grill but the body shop guy is telling me that it is bigger than the grill I have on my cls550, did you change the front bumper?

Nope didn't change the bumper at all! it's the stock OEM bumper that came with the car, I would've definitely mentioned that in my video but that's not the case, Your new grill should be 2012 to 2014, Might want to show your body shop guy my video

I don't remember my actual seller lol, but there are many sellers on Amazon and eBay just do a Search🔍 or Google it and look for the best quality, price, color, and fitment for your particular model and year

How does this compare to the rear bumper chrome trim and tailpipes cuz I did those and they were annoying but managable in 15 min each, would u say this is harder?

Bro only 2 pieces were reusable after cutting the grill out, the painted trim ring and the painted trim for the badge, Sold them on ebay, the mesh backing, trashed! Thanks

Yes, the original star will fit perfectly, with a twist like OEM grill.

No offense, but I don't think it looks good on the 2012-2014 CLS, only the 2015+ CLS models due to the updated headlights and bottom section of the grill area. Have you done an ECU tune yet?

Yes, It's all one piece, top and bottom grill, it needs to be cut across between the two.
