I took an ASE certification test recently, one of the questions was regarding an engine with low compression and no leakdown. I knew it was a bent rod, thanks Digby and guys!

It is great to watch father and son working together! Thanks for making these great videos. I have been restoring 2 190e and your videos had saved me multiple times when I could not find a solution, I am not a mechanic, I am lawyer and pilot, but I can fix anything with the right tools and instructions and in this case with the right youtube videos. Have a great day!

Thanks to Ken's video and subsequent kit I was able to stop a long time leak which I had attributed to a leaking rear main seal. 😊

Rubber seals in old engines are guaranteed to be hard and cracked, so makes sense to replace them whilst the engine is out, and everything is easier to get too.

The wax thermostats used in cars as they age gradually tend to open at a lower temperature. For good heat in the cabin especially on diesels renewing the thermostat is a really good idea.

Question, why the decision to go with a w126 into Digby? Is there an advantage for doing that? And, wihich is considered the better engine ? Just wondering?

OK, you kinda let the cat outta the bag when you said the words "new owner". I'd like that to be me of course as I'm sure your 216k subscribers would as well. How about giving Digby away on the show or raffle Digby off. Let us know where the line is to be the future owner. I remember about 15 years ago working on my 83 300TD using your fixes and tricks to keep old yeller on the road. Unfortunately I let her get away but the chance to own a Mercedessource 123 would be worth Digby's weight in gold. Awesome series. Thanks.

I agree with all of that stuff. When the engine is out of the car replace everything and anything that is broken, leaking, or prone to leaking overtime. That includes any and all gaskets, seals, plugs, hoses, etc. In this case of a manual transmission it’s a very good idea to go ahead and replace the clutch in that situation but since this is a turbo diesel those were only made in automatic anyways at least here in the states. The only car that I know of that has a clutch mounted on the outside of the transmission is a Ferrari and I think that’s only certain years and models. It literally takes about 15 minutes to replace a clutch on those cars. Rear main seal is another important thing to replace. As for the a/c I might replace the hoses and pressure lines but charging it would be difficult in the wintertime anyways so I understand why you might not wanna do that now.

I so want a diesel W123, too bad that the few examples we have here in Peru are in very rough shape :(
@obelic715 жыл бұрын
not only in peru they were driven in to the ground worldwide. Most famous is the taxi cab / commercial version in Europe. Those versions had special reinforcments for an extra hard working life. There is one such service estate W123 ( no rear seats ) from a MB truck dealer who bought it new in 1981 who has reached 2.5 million Kilometers with the original engine! The entire car is total worn out and put on display at the dealership. It still runs. There are plans to restore the car to new for the 75 year celibration of the dealership in 2021

I hope Kent can give some advise or answer as to why my 300SD 85 after a long trip starts to shake like a paint shaker. She has been running well the past few years only lately she started to act up as her idling suddenly changes its beat!!! Has this something to do with the injection pump or injectors!!!

Just a little question, my 240D has good compression, the glow plugs are working but it is a little bit rough in idle and its not starting that well when it is cold, how do i clean up the pre chambers?
@Mercedessource5 жыл бұрын
With hard starting issues you always start with a compression test first after doing a valve adjustment on diesels up to 1985. If compression is ok you move on to glow plugs, carbon reaming, filters, lift pump, fuel injectors, and injection pump timing.

Hi I have this car I came across for $600 I know it's a long shot but by the sound of the engine on this video can you more or less tell me anything on this .? What to look for what to check ... I'm wanting the motor and transmission for a project... Thanks any feedback from this video is greatly appreciated. Thanks I've sent a video please check it out and please comment on your opinion of this sounding engine.
