Just a quick and simple video showing how the cam solenoid works on the cam phaser to adjust the cam timing. The cam solenoid is essentially an electromagnet that gets activated by the ECU. The ECU varies how long the cam solenoid pushes on the cam phaser (thereby controlling the oil pressure within it) and monitors and adjusts how much the camshaft is retarded or advanced by looking at the camshaft position sensors.
