So you have to consider shenanigans playing a part. As for what Russell does when he can't use Hamilton's practice stats, that remains to be seen, but remember where you heard this first. Meantime, Hamilton has a totally alien environment of Ferrari to look forward to. Who knows what he'll encounter there. You could see all this as a warm-up. eg, Hamilton flexing in familiar surrounds to say, 'Don't be this team'.

All this seems to ignore the fact there were stages of the race Lewis was the fastest man on track - catching the front four (quite apart from him having the fastest lap). I looked at that race and thought this proves he hasn't lost it - he will win a race this season. He lost this race because he got held up by Alonso for a long time and then only had a set of hard new tyres. If one or two things had gone his way, he could have won - even from 7th.

Guys are we so desperate to sanitize F1 in general and Mercedes in particular to look fair that we are willing to ignore the possible causal relationship between less than ideal temperature in the tires and a massive mistake that causes time. If we’re not going to explore that possibility, then let us leave these issues alone and allow the public to form their own opinions. But as respectable journalist doing a deep dive into these issues, one must seek not to establish, but to disprove that one thing did not impact the other, as in the real world, having your mental capacity split to cover for the mistake of others can often lead to less than ideal performance. Lewis was not responsible for ensuring that the tires 🛞 leave the blanket at the prescribed temperature that’s the responsibility of the tire mechanics. Covering or making up for their mistakes has its own consequences. I’ve come to expect better, more even from this one of my favorite channels. This level of reasoning is laughable. Q3/2nd run - and at least 4 cars bettered their runs to overtake Lewis. Meanwhile, neither Mercedes drivers improved.. Russell was on provisional pole, and Hamilton was at that time in 3rd. We can't blame changing conditions, since other drivers improved, all we have is undercooked tires which possibly affected both drivers... Also, let's not forget Russell's pole had the good fortune of a tow. Were it not for that tow, he would have been back where Hamilton finished and overtaken by those 4 faster drivers. Who knows, Mercedes might have made more of an effort to warm both their tires.

Let’s for arguments sake assume they dropped the tyre temps so he doesn’t out qualify Russel. And he can’t in one lap up the temp enough to stop the sliding which slows you down. Then in the race even if the temps are off over a few laps the temps come to the right window and suddenly Lewis has superior race pace, which seems to happen all the time. There is a ring of truth in that, I don’t think you can deny that. I’m not decrying Russell, he is rapid. Not at all. And I support all English Drivers. The question for me is why didn’t they put him on the hard after the slicks? James mentioned that the hard was the right tire but they gave Lewis the medium. they could have put them both on the hards right after the slicks. His race would have been ruined without the second SC because the medium they put him on would have been gone by the end of the race.
