Brilliant video. I live in the UK and the fix was fairly straightforward. I pulled the metal piece out with my fingers and it snapped into place! I never would have even thought of trying it but for your video and another I found on YT. The hardest part has been relocating the Torx screws in the hand pull lever and getting the panel back in place. I think Mercedes motto is, 'If you can make it as difficult and complicated as possible then do it!' What possessed them to use this crazy system is beyond me. Anyway you have saved me money and I appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. 🙂👍

Marshall, Thank you for your video. It is really helpful. I had the same issue and fixed it per your guidance. Saved $269 diagnostic fee in Foothill Ranch CA Mercedes Benz dealership and the repair cost (They may change the entire E brake system since they do not know how to repair and they do not want to repair and want to replace the whole.

Thanks bro, your detailed video saved me from taking it to a mechanic, or searching around and dismantling the car. I didn't even need to get on my back, just felt around for the spring and moved up a little to find the metal piece and pulled it a little with my fingers and everything fell into place!

Hello, thank you very VERY much! Just saved me a lot of headache. Bought all the part, because the big service said it needs to be changed, because that part its not fixable. Bought used part, but fixed after your video! That metal part was in not its place :) mb c207

Thanks for the video! I had the same problem. In my case, the bent piece of metal was holding on right where the release cable end is attached (all the way over the end of the cable). It really looks like it belongs there and had to closely compare my system to your video to make sure it's the same part. For anyone else doing this, that bent piece of metal is quite long and you may need to pry quite a bit to get it clear of the plastic part and get it back into position. Also, the access panel to reattach the cable take quite a bit of force to remove. You can remove the release handle mechanism held on with two T-20 screws and reattach the cable without removing the access panel. That's probably easier before you fix the actual problem in the mechanism.

I have same jamming problem of foot brake. The hardest part is that my car has drivers seat on the right (uk), which makes getting in to foot brake mechanism very hard and uncomfortable. Also there are no option to remove any panel like you did on the side. Thanks to showing about no access panel under rear seat, it saves a lot of time and effort. PS. I hate how plasticky-plastic MB is becoming.

Glad that I was able to at least save you some time not dealing with that plate! On the right hand drive version, is the brake still pushed with the left foot (meaning its along the drive tunnel instead of like my car?

After some advice - had rear discs and pads fitted and were binding. Then had new shoes, all mounting clips/springs, cables and still no parking brake. Worked fine before discs and pads done never any issues in 2 years of owning car. Have mentioned the clip 3:30 mins in but will get them to double check. Any other ideas? just chucking parts at it and not getting any better. Not Merc techs which doesnt help. Thanks

Hi, mine have cables underneath the car and I feel like one of the cables may have come out of the mechanism. Do I need to remove the heat shields? Because whenever I depress the handbrake, it stays down but it has no effects on the brake shoes
@marshall56442 жыл бұрын
May need new brake pads and/or rotors. To answer your question, they are under the heat shields somewhere along the driveshaft.
@TheYoungWarlock2 жыл бұрын
Marshall is it a hard job to takeoff the heat shield?
@marshall56442 жыл бұрын
@@TheYoungWarlock Its not an easy job if its on a lift. If you are inclined, I'd check the brake pads and rotors, brake fluid level, and the parking brake as I described in the video. THose are quick easy checks to do before getting into something that is more work

Marshall I’ve replaced the brake discs, brake pads and brake shoes for the rear wheels and I’m still facing the same issue
@TheYoungWarlock2 жыл бұрын
Marshall I don’t understand the relevance of brake fluid and brake pads with handbrake? I mean I checked the other parts and when driving everything else works fine. Just when parked and if the surface has even a little steepness the car would roll. So the handbrake is not doing a good job

Hi all, I was hoping to find the solution here, but mine is also the right hand side model, with foot brake beside the tunnel... It's a pain sticking & only in cold weather 🤷♂️
@decmb17383 жыл бұрын
I added the detail in another comment, but if the release handle is the same as on the left-hand drive, you don't need an access panel to get the cable reattached. Remove the two T-20 screws holding the release handle guide, pull out the handle guide, and you can reattach the cable through the hole. I have no idea how you get to the mechanism part shown in the video for right-hand drive models, but hopefully it's accessible in the footwell.

I fixed it😊

Another thing - I can't help but think this problem was created because the parking brake release was slow or incomplete. On my car, I had to lift the foot brake lever to get the parking brake to release all the way. There is another video somebody created for how to grease the heavy spring on the parking brake lever, and I suggest everyone checks that out after they do this repair. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2S0hYygi6uLibc
@marshall56443 жыл бұрын
Probably not a bad idea. I didn't do any grease and have had zero issues though YMMV
