Happy New Year to you Mike! PLEASE, before you do anything else, disconnect the batteries on your R230 and do the BCM/BNS fuse modification ASAP. There is a serious FIRE RISK.

Greeting from Oz and a Happy New Year to you too. I have been doing a bit of research since your message but need to understand more clearly under what circumstances this happens. I have a theory that the BCM gets put under much greater load/stress due to the fact that many cars have battery draws which are not attended to. The consumer battery becomes knackered as a result and is constantly being recharged from a relatively low level.

When I get back I may have a closer look at the BCM in my car. The other thing I would love to see some research on is whether the Components in the BCM are unduly stressed if you put a non AGM battery in the car (which many people do). The charging profile is very different for lead acid vs AGM. Anyway….lets see if our rusty Toyota makes it round Australia. Mike
