Well known problem, speak to owners clubs. The K40 relay box is notorious for dry solder joints. Reflowing two of the joints and clearing all faults and your away to go again.

Nice work. It would be interesting to see how you would do an external 4 pin relay. It wouldn’t fit into the box though.

Hi, Can a bad k40 relay cause my slk 230 from stalling while driving for around 30 kph? After stalling, it will not start for around 20 minutes then it starts fine. I Had the original k40 relay resoldered but after a few weeks it happened again then i bought i surplus k40 relay but it happened again after a few weeks. I really want to use the slk with having a peace of mind that I wouldn't get towed in the the middle of the road. I was thinking of using an aftermarket bosch relay, would that work? Thank you

I have one, an electric vacuum one, can't remember why it didn't work on this one. I think it was too small to go over the chunky relay pins
