I have an SLK350 R171. It’s a rare 6 speed manual. 271 BHP and it’s feels it. Pulls like a train in every gear and as much as I have thought to sell it but I simply can’t. Love the noise it makes, I tend to drive it on sunny days and puts a smile on my face every time I get in it.

Im really enjoying everything about this series. The presenters are great and very relatable,and the format of only having £500-£1500 is so me. I have never paid over £1200 for a car that i always try to get 2 or 3 years out of. I currently run a Ford Focus cc 2.0 petrol,and the roof motor overheats so i dont use it.I bought it like this with a full mot and running and looking like new,and thouught i will just use it like any other hard top. Its a great car and the original owner has it fully spec out,and i paid just £800.00 for it and im gertain to get 3 years out of this one.

I am surprised they didn't think of plugging in the scanning tool when they bought the car to see the fault codes. I have W210 E200k and first thing the mechanic usually does is to plug in MB Star to check the fault codes. Had they done that they would have saved a lot of money and time figuring out what was wrong. Gus shouldn't just trust the Google experts. (Edited) But again this is a car show and somehow I felt they wanted to fully utilise the 5 days whereas had they gone ahead and get someone to properly diagnose the car with a scanning tool they could have completed the car in less than 5 days. Everyone who owns a post W124 model knows that you need to plug the cars into scanning tool to get the fault codes and eliminate the guess work.
@random-person1 Жыл бұрын
It's odd that the previous owners didn't do that then, wouldn't you say? You're right, the first thing any mech worth a few bob will do is plug in a scan tool (usually an obd2). Still, they got there in the end.
@zanmansor4255 Жыл бұрын
@@random-person1 as a merc owner I understand the frustration of the previous owner.esp with cars that have a lot of electronics.again the previous owner may had tried DIY by googling the symptoms and following Google experts...I also did that just to narrow down the problem but in the end it is always better to get the car plugged into scanning tool so that you don't waste money and time. One time my car went to limp mode and the BAS/ASR/Brake lights all came out. Off the engine and it was ok then it happened again off and on again. Mechanic plugged in the tool and found out the brake switch was faulty a component that was cheap. Replaced it and solved the issue.

@@zanmansor4255 and there it is. the mech plugged in his scan tool and found the problem. it was like when the chap bought a new tin lid when he actually didnt need one. most likely he needn't have changed the pumps and actuator either. so spending 50 quid to have your car scanned saves shed loads of money in the long run!

A lot of the electronic modules are coded for the one car's VIN. They won't work on any other car without being reset to the new VIN. Specialist knowledge and equipment is essential to fixing the computer systems.
@chrispenn715 Жыл бұрын
Yep -had one of these about 6-7 years ago. Numerous problems with the coded modules. A major issue is that oil seeps out of the gearbox up into the gearbox ECU (in the passenger footwell) and causes chaos. I never got it working properly and sold it with faults. I owned one like this, same colour, same engine and spec. It was a lovely car but I did end up having to fix all types of issues. Repainted the interior using special interior paint from Germany, various roof mech sensors, replaced a leaking pneumatic seal on the roof, fixed broken gear selector, replaced roof headlining, replaced broken window mechanisms etc etc. it was endless. The jerky gear selection was fixed by replacing gearbox oil and filter. Another issue to look for (there are many!!!) is the maf sensor which makes the engine run rough. All were completely achievable with just the most basic knowledge. The problem with these guys is that they don’t possess the skills to do these most basic tasks and as a result end up wasting crazy amounts of money. I find this show really frustrating to watch. For anyone considering buying one, they’re lovely to drive and well worth considering. But the interior is extremely brittle and fragile at this age. Just be prepared to do lots of DIY fixes.
@Johntay7866Ай бұрын
Same with mine as well. The pre facelift versions had a design defect with the maf sensor being too low in the pipe resulting in oil coating the sensor. I had to always check and clean the maf like once a month. I ended up bypassing the whole oil separator and airing it to atmosphere. I replaced so many things with that car but I loved it. I plan on buying another soon.
