A couple things missed here...one, remove the bracket after taking screw out. Will make placing battery into place easier and correctly. Two, remove the plastic shield from the terminal side of the battery....it has clips, and will make your life much easier when removing and installing new battery. Especially if the battery weighs nearly 50 pounds....finally, after dropping new battery into place, Then, attach bracket, Then, attach shield, Then, snake plus terminal wire inside of shield, and reconnect battery terminals. After all is connected, the check engine light may come on, but in many cases, after around 5 start ups and driving around, should go away while computer relearns a few things....I have had the annoying privilege of swapping out my Benz battery many times....

Thanks for the video, I’m trying to replace my car battery, can I use a jumpstart battery as a external battery ? Also do we need to initialise the system to match the new battery?

Could I use a battery charger on the right side ? The part where you attached the Voltmeter.

Good video, thank you. You advise that power should be maintained to the car while removing the battery to avoid losing power to the car's computer, otherwise it would need to be reset. Elsewhere I saw mention of this car having an auxiliary battery in front ot passenger seat. Is this so (if yes, I guess the computer would continue to receive standby power)? If a second battery needs to be connected, would it be easier to connect it where you connected your voltmeter at the start of the video, rather than directly on the terminals (seems to be the same circuit, less risk of accidential short). About to change my battery today, so a few questions in mind. Thank you again.

Okay, new battery installed without issues. A few learnings: 1. I connected a spare battery to the 'jump start' terminals (to right of battery) to maintain power to computer. 2. I disconnected the battery terminals from the old battery (did not loosen other nuts, to keep jump start terminals in the circuit). 3. Once the new battery was in place, I lifted the plastic surround at the back left joint, and it easily lifted, allowing easy insertion of the battery holding clamp. It was then easy to position and screw the holding clamp back in place. Car started without issues, computer working, no reset needed.

INCORRECT PROCEDURE - Why because when changing the battery you must reset the BMS in the computer system

I heard you can connect external battery positive to red positive side and external battery negative to ground hook on the car. Will it work? I assume it can be also made by another car's battery (car should be working) any ideas?
@ttarmo2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can connect the external power supply (other battery or charger) in the jump start connections. I connected charger to mine and no fault codes or anything after that. Much easier than trying to get them to hold on leads while putting new battery. For you this information is probably irrelevant but hopefully helps someone else.

MB aftermarket services recomments reseting the battery load performances in the software of the car. It can only be done in MB official shop. Is that really needed?

No thats not needed - only for cars after 2015

My battery VW ( AGM 680 A EN) is down to 32% SOH and 390 A EN and still works perfectly including the start stop works ok.I don’t think you needed to change so soon, that’s just normal wear and tear at 590 A

NEVER work on the 12v terminal until the earth terminal has been disconnected, and always reconnect the earth terminal last. If your socket, spanner or whatever on the 12v terminal should happen to touch any other metalwork with the earth still connected then you will get a massive arc and possibly a battery explosion if there are any battery gases in the vicinity.

That IS NOT the battery. That's just where you jump start it, the actual battery is located on the left side of the post beneath the cover
