Cheers boss, I would never have found that spring cos mine was all squashed up and hidden out of the way in the back of the mechanism... 5.80 and she's fixed, top man👍

Brilliant! It was very hard getting right in behind everything but it worked. I also had to remove both parts of the cable engaging mechanism because the spring had come right off and I couldn't attach the good end to the other hole without unclipping the other part. The key ring that I used was small - 1.3 cm diameter. Many thanks!

Big thanks for this video. I had the exact same issue in my E240 w210 and all I did was with pliers pull the next loop off the spring and bent in a shape another hook and re attached it and all works.. no need for keyring loop.. You just saved me $100's at the mechanics ;)

Cheers for posting this vid dude . I fixed my dad's Merc today . I fitted a new spring from Merc £1.50 Found I really easy to fit too hooked it in the top end first pulled it Down hooked it in the bottom .I used small pointed nose pliers.
