A few things to mention here, 1- you need a tool to remove the coupling o ring. It is very tight and using hammer and flat head will break the plastic tips and damage the fuel pump. 2- you need to evenly tight it later to stop gas fumes from escaping the seal again flat head wont work here. 3- once you have removed the clamp from fuel filter pipe, it is better to put a new one or use the one with screw, putting the same clamp again is not safe as it might get loose. 4- You cannot find the fuel filter only, you need to replace the entire thing. The whole unit holds pressure as it has built-in pressure regulator, opening it and putting some sort of filter may cause the retainer to leak

Stephen Cannon the pump has a strainer on it when you purchase a new pump. Located on the passenger side. This is not the pump they are working on. It’s the sander and secondary much larger cartridge style filter (FEBI # 39831). Or the whole unit is oem # 211-470-17-94 much more expensive. I see comments everywhere people saying there are two pumps. This is wrong. There is only one pump. Period. The confusion comes from the fact the sender/filter looks like a pump as well, even has a float attached like the pump also has. This is because the tank has a driveshaft hump separating the two half’s of the tank, requiring two floats.

I'm sorry, I must be crazy but I never seen the fuel filter in the video at all... could you be so kind as to point it out... thanx ..... what I was actually trying to say in that comment was thar nobody had taken the filter media out of fuel filter module casing, they just show the exterior of the filter casing, as if to say you can't change the filter media by itself people seem to belive that you have 2 buy the entire module and you can't even buy the filters or even the pumps or filter separately .

I don't like the hands being exposed to high-octane fuel (note the parched skin on one hand) gloves must be worn in this situation. Secondly, having the fuel pump resting on a workbench that's not completely free of dust or dirt has the potential to work its way into the tank, along with fuel lines and cables dangling over the side with the end reaching the floor. It could contaminate the fuel, and maybe escaping the filter.

why not completely shunt the filter and put another one on the hose? Like on any other car. Is this possible? If you have access to the input and the output hose, just bind them together with some adapter and put a regular line filter downstream. Is it possible?

W210 is sweet. Right on the outside under the car. Takes about 15 minutes to change. 2 hose clamps and 1 clamp holding the filter on the car. You'll need some hose Pinchers to keep fuel from running out of the tank when u remove the filter though. Got a set at harbor freight for about five bucks I think. Wish they wouldn't have changed it on the w211.
