Every 50,000 Km I have re greased the bearings (with high temp bearing grease) on the idler and tensioner pulleys without any failures so far on three of my cars. E250 cdi, V250d, and E220d all terrain.

The pulleys on my Vito have sealed bearings. Did you prise the rubber seal off them to clean and repack with grease?

@@markfitzgerald7556 That's attention to detailed maintenance! I wanted to just replace the bearing but the bearing is almost moulded into the plastic pulley. There was no way I could press it out without destroying the pulley. My D40 Navara has metal pulleys. I pressed the old bearings out and pressed new ones in.

Hi Scott. FYI I just did mine and used an offset 17mm ring spanner on the tensioner. Works fine, no need for a special tool.

@@nyikomahlawole Thanks for the support Eugene. Instead of HID consider LED bulbs. I'm considering converting mine. HID is now old technology compared to the latest LED bulbs. I recently changed out the HID bulbs/ballasts in my Nissan 4wd to LED and they're much better. The light output is about the same or slightly more but the main benefit is light is instant ... no lag waiting for the HID to heat up. I bought a kit from here: www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/

Hi, it's an interesting idea to use a 17mm socket. I have always used a Torx T60 bit on the tensioner. I think I read that in the factory manual. This 17mm looks simpler and as good as the T60.
@ScottElliott1523 жыл бұрын
Thanks Adam. I found it's easy to use the 17mm socket especially as you're doing it by feel.

Hi Scott, after howmany miles / kilometers you should replace this belt? Also another question, do you have a video about replace the coolant fluid on a W639. Mine got now 300.000KM and need to be replaced. Thx in advance
@ScottElliott15228 күн бұрын
Modern serpentine belts last a long time and manufacturers suggest changing them at about 160,000 kilometres. No I don't have a video on the coolant change but there are videos on YT.
@kendavies88202 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott can you change the belt without removing the front end? Fan assembly etc. Cheers Ken
@ScottElliott1522 жыл бұрын
Ken from memory you remove the front lower engine compartment plastic panel and unclip a coolant hose from a bracket. Once you pull back the tensioner and lock it open the belt should come off.

I did this job 3 months ago . New belt and tensioner. Everything has been fine but this week it's been squeaking.. I'm wondering if there's any adjustment I can make?
@ScottElliott1522 жыл бұрын
It's probably the belt squeaking. The belt tensioner is automatic but perhaps that's on its way out. Try some spray on belt dressing first. If that doesn't sort it out check out the belt tensioner.

@ScottElliott1523 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The alternator pulley is an overrun one way pulley. You generally need to remove the alternator and use an impact gun. Not sure what size socket as I've not had to do my alternator pulley.

I have to buy a new alternator now any tips on where I can find a resnable priced one. @@geomaj1 Well that's a shame the thread broke. Must have been some corrosion in there. The alternator pulley comes off but you need a special tool and a big impact wrench. There are plenty of YT videos on how to take off those one way or over run pulleys. You need to take the alternator out to unscrew the pulley. The belt alignment diagrams are easily found with a google search.
