I saw a young man (21-25) driving a 240D on the beltway yesterday! It was so encouraging to see the younger generation hopefully interested in these older Benzes. He was driving very carefully.

I got my 300 SEL for free as it was going to the salvage yard and got that car running good. Also own a 560 SEL and that thing can MOVE!

I've never understood wht fascination with the 16-valve. Yes, they're rare, but the performance is not all THAT great, and their rarity makes many of the parts you will inevitably need both hard to find and expensive. Many years ago I restored an Adenauer (in the early 1990s), and the parts weren't just expensive, they were HARD to source. If you needed trim pieces you were just dreaming, as there simply weren't any. And rust repair on one of these can be horrific. I'm surprised at the 500E's inclusion, although the limited production makes it a difficult proposition to restore or refurbish. And, being a "modern" car, the electrics can be nightmarish. 6.9s can be catastrophic, and so many of them have been neglected and abused. In my experience, the worst are the grey-market cars that came over from Europe and inevitably had rust to compound their mechanical problems. Parts have got to be a problem these days... I have never owned a 600, but we worked on a few of them when I had my dealership. Labor costs just floored 600 owners, and these were people who HAD money and KNEW a bit about the car. As an enthusiastic 6.3 owner (I've had 5 of them, still have the last one), I'm almost glad it did not make your list...but I also kind of wonder why. I KNOW parts are getting difficult...but I have a brand-new in-the-box injection pump and a full set of suspension components in my spares, so I should be covered. Thanks for another informative video; keep 'em coming!

another great viideo.I would say a 540k or even a 770K might be the most expensive to keep running,mainly due to parts costs and specialized labor

Great choices all for the average working stiff. Glad it didn't go into the grossly unattainable segment with 53' 300 SL, and their cousins the 40's SSK's. Most modern folks don't tour Art Museum's or have the funds to sponsor one, and that is where those autos reside always. Other than the Adenour or the 600 which I've only seen in film, all the other's were often glimpsed at one time in my recollection throughout my life, which is some solace. My thanks for your comprehensive attention given them. Warmest regards.

The 6.3 is certainly very expensive to restore but it is exceptionally well made. A good one really will last. Mine is still completely original. The air suspension master control valves can be resleeved just like brake cylinders. However the biggest and most expensive potential problem is deep body corrosion in a neglected car. Nevertheless highly rewarding for the enthusiast.
@thisisnightshop20375 жыл бұрын
The 6.3, when fully sorted, is absolutely that- dead reliable, extremely solid and wonderful to drive. When you're finished, you never think about the money.

A worthy mentions list is needed!! Top 5 classic mercedes on the rise. The 560 market is going nuts and now the sec are bringing in good money and mint SEL are even going for BAT prices. I had an accident in my 560 sec and walked away. But for what I paied for that car a year ago I can find just a parts sec. I bought a SEL 560 silver with the blue interior. I was priced out of the sec market. And the 300 td wagons as well. Only diesel deal is a CD coupe turbo it seems

@alfredoltinocol5 жыл бұрын
Well this was a long time ago (early 2000) and I was living in Venezuela so if it still exists it must be there. I bought it from a musician and as soon as I got it the issues started. 1st a strong gas odor so I took it to a Mercedes Benz shop, they fixed it and immediately it almost overheated, took it back but was´t satisfied with their explanation that "it was usual and normal. for these cars"..so took it to another smaller shop run by a former Mercedes Benz mechanic. There I had the engine rebuilt, found out about the rusted floorboards which were fixed (over a year in the shop since they had to fabricate the floorboards). By the time I got it back I was married and my first child had been born. So I needed a reliable car and that was the end of my Mercedes stint...but I still miss it because it drove like nothing else I´ve ever driven. @@thisisnightshop2037

If resources allow, is always a good idea to buy any of them even if they are bit expensive to sort out. Those are truly unique and superior cars that can run virtually forever if properly maintained and the good thing is, being Mercedes you can be sure parts are always going to be available from some source (new, rebuilt, used).
