Yeh, as a dancer that use to compete we don’t talk enough about the trauma and abuse within a company/team. I left my team because of this. I think this type of behavior is accepted and seen as ok, when it is never ok, especially to growing children. When I turned 17 and was able to stand up for myself I called them all out and left. I will not disclose what team, or who I’m talking about. But I will say, after a few of us left the team I heard the team got nicer and more supporting. I think that a nurturing and encouraging environment is extremely important for growing children that are susceptible to abuse like this. That’s all lol, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
@alaynaheinline19212 жыл бұрын
Yess thank you for saying this 👏🏼👏🏼 I used to do competitive cheerleading and the environment was so toxic! No one, especially children/ adolescents, can thrive in such a negative atmosphere. It’s very sad because it can make a person quit something that they love so much just because it’s so mentally draining!
@meganfietsam2642 жыл бұрын
@@alaynaheinline1921 no, dead ass. Like I quit something I loved Bc I knew the abuse wasn’t worth it. And that’s more than a lot of dancers can say they were able to do. It’s sad. It’s sad that these grown adults feel it necessary to do these things to these children.

I have a friend who just quit dance this year after doing it practically her whole life because of how fed up she got. She dislocated her knee in October and has had a lot of health issues (both related and unrelated) and their teacher essentially straight up told her that the team was better off without her. This was after forcing her to go to dance competitions hours away for whole weekends without a single thing to do because she was still on crutches or in a brace. Their teacher was a right bitch, and I think I said that pretty much every time I heard about her. It just baffles me how something as fun and exhilarating as dancing can become such a breeding ground for abuse and toxicity
