I have been sailing for the last 14 years. Passed out from MERI Kolkata in the year 2008. Joined Seaarland Ship Management as an Engine Cadet, over the course I have sailed in the past with British Petroleum and Anglo-Eastern as well.
With the help of YT Channel Merchant Navy Decoded and the website www.merchantnavydecoded.com, we are trying to make this profession more transparent. All our endeavors are towards promoting good shipping companies, good colleges and sharing updated information about the same.

Sir, Today While doing DG doctor approval, for admission in The Great Eastern, they saw that my eyesight is 6/6 with glasses & 6/9 with naked eye. Im 24 years old. This is my first try in marchant navy. Except eyesight, all tests report are positive for marchant navy. But the doctors said that i will not selected for eyesight problem.. I have applied there for Gp rating (deck/engine). Last date of medical submission by 13th June, Monday, 2022. My question is 1. Should i send my medical to the institute after listening these suggestions from doctors? 2. If i send medicals & got selected then will they give me permission to do LASIK? 3. Here, sir told that engine cadet eyesight atleast 6/12 in both eyes or 6/9 in better eye & 6/18 in worst eye. Then is there any chance for me in marchant navy ? 4. I have officially showed my Diploma certificate to them. But i did ITI in welder which is for 1 year. Which i told them while on interview . Sir please reply me.. In great tension! .. What should i do now..? I want to do my carrier in marchant navy engineer.. Please sir. Show me right path.. Time is too short..

Hi, See, for the DECK side both eyes should be 6/6, for instance, if one eye is 6/6 then the worst eyes should be 6/9. and for the ENGINE side, both eyes should be 6/12, if one eye is 6/9 then the worst eye should be 6/18. & Each day we get around 400 to 500 queries and a minimum of 100 calls.
