mercury high idle problems

The first part you pointed to is the fuel pressure regulator. The only part that controls idle in a variable way is the idle air control valve. They just rigged yours to not change rpm. Next time bring it to a Yamaha mechanic. They are exactly the same year for year.

I have a vintage 70's Merc Thunderbolt 50HP 2 stroke 4 cylinder that I rebuilt and got running, but it idles very high in neutral!. Anyone know what I need to adjust to get it to idle properly?. I was thinking it could maybe be the cable that comes from the Mercontrol/throttle/choke, and maybe I need to adjust one of the stop screws on the side?, and I know one does timing so I just need to know which one to adjust so I don't accidentally end up screwing something up!?. Any advice would be very much appreciated!. I want to go on the water, but I can't because I know if I put it in gear with it idling that high that it'll be bad news bear! lol

I have the same 2006 mercury 115 4 stroke. My motor idles at around 1200 in neutral and around 1000 in gear. It does idle up cold but comes down once it warms up. Any thoughts?

it should idle down to 750 rpm when warmed up.if it stays idled up after warmup, you may have the same problem.

Same thing mine was doing. Really clunks when you go into gear.its hard on the gears.

its a 5 dollar filter that fits in a chainsaw tank.

What's the filter name? Idle valve filter?

I'm just a DIY'er, but that part you keep referring to as a "idle air control valve", is actually the fuel pressure regulator. The dealer could and should have checked the fuel pressure. There is a schrader valve with a little black cap on top of the fuel rail right next to where you were pointing. They should have put a fuel pressure gauge on it and diagnosed you issue in minutes. This should have been a simple and inexpensive fix.

ya if they can. Mercury in alberta never saw that problem before and when i tracked down the last part in canada it was 500 $ and obsulete.

I have an 05 Mercury 115 4stroke like yours too. It idles @ 1600rpm. I'm looking for that tube and I can't seem to find it. Is it for the 06 model only? Thanks!

hi, at 4 min & 13 sec in yr video that part yr pointing at is the fuel pressure regulator.. the next one yr pointing at is yr tps sensor (throttle position sensor) i would not touch it because its a real bitch to set it up after moving it. hope this info helps you out.. thanks, corey..
