Hey Mercedes! I've followed you for some years now, and it's always a comfort to see your videos pop into my feed. Your recommandations always inspire me to branch out. Fitz is one of my favorite characters of all times and I have you to blame. Thank you for keeping up the videos when you can. Your hair has grown so long already, it looks great! Not that your shorn hair also didn't look fantastic.

Awww, so glad you love Fitz so much! I've taken so long to reply to this comment that my hair has all been cut off again, haha

I adore the nature writing in both Rebecca and The Essex Serpent. Two of my favourite books. The Bass Rock and The Lightkeepers are on my physical tbr, good to know that they have autumnal atmospheres. Mu first real autumnal read will be October, October by Katya Balen. The blurb promises ‘a feast for the senses, filled with the woodsmoke smell of crisp autumn mornings and the sound of wellies squelching in river mud.’

Love The Bass Rock. A favourite book the year it came out. So tempted to pick up The Haunting of Aveline Jones! Don’t read middle grade, let alone much fantasy. Been also tempted to pick up y Cherie Dimaline’s Marrow Thieves which is YA with an indigenous focus.

I've had legendborn on hold forever and it looks like it will be available to me in a couple weeks 🤞 very much looking forward to it. I also crave fantasy in the autumn and winter ❄️

Definitely going to pick up White is For Witching from the library! The movie of The Shining doesn’t hold a candle to the book. It would be a brilliant winter read.

I LOVED The Bass Rock, a five star read for me this past winter. I’ve added SwanSong to my list. Inspired by your middle grade inclusion, I’m going to revisit some of my favourite Diana Wynne Jones. Witch Week and The Time of the Ghost are my all time favourites, and not as niche Halloweeny as they sound. Just wonderful cosy and nostalgic reads.

I've never read any Diana Wynne Jones but I definitely need to!

Per your recommendation in a few videos some time ago, I read Ohio by Stephen Markley... WOW. Really loved it!!! Since, one the topic of historical fiction, I just finished reading Joan by Katherine J. Chen, a retelling of Joan of Arc's life story. Such a wonderful read and would definitely recommend for fall! Some creepy, cozy castle scenes!

Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed Ohio :) I'd heard of Joan but had not realised it had castle vibes! I will 100% read it now, haha. Thank you for the recommendation:)

Great recommendations. 📚🍂 I thought The Bass Rock was excellent and I wish it had received some prize attention. And I LOVED Plain Bad Heroines.

I read three recommendations from your wonderful self in September. All 4/5 star reads. The Arsonists City The Sleepwalkers Guide to Dancing Ghosted September was my best reading month yet this year. 16 books. 11 of those were 4/5 star reads.

Gothic is my favourite genre. Rebecca and The Little Stranger, two of my all time favourites. ❤️ I've never got around to The Essex Serpent, but meant to, so have just reserved it at the library. Have tried The Bass Rock a couple of times but didn't get into it, will try again as so many recommend it. Have you read The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell, it was one of my favourite reads of 2020? Have recently loved The White Hare by Jane Johnson and also liked The Nesting by C.J. Cooke. 🎃

I hope you enjoy The Essex Serpent! Oh, no I haven't tried any of those 3. I heard great things about Laura Purcell's books so I need to pick one of them up.
