I Kit You Not! (How I De-Kit)

Due to some recent questions, I thought I'd walk you through my thought process on how I de-kit my Hip Kits at the end of the month when the new kits come in. I also have a new way of storing my kits, so I share that in this video as well. Thanks to the Hip Kit Club for providing me with these beautiful kits each month.

Hi Tracy, thanks for sharing your dekitting process. I don't use kits but this is useful to me because I'm thinking of making a few changes to my storage method. I store by theme but since starting Project Life I think I need to change things around especially my stamps. Helen xxx

I keep them the same way, but I have the Teresa collins studiobox which I think is called her hobby box now and it has sliding panels for papers, so I just slide my bags in it. Some are in the 12 by 12 rolling carts too. And for words, alphas and puffy etc i have the same 12 by 12 drawers in the studiobox and i keep them like you do.

I like how you de-kit. Any suggestions on how to do so when someone is not fortunate enough to have all the space you have. I went from a room to a small section of a room and struggling on how to organize my stuff.

How are your cubes holding up? I've had mine about ten years and all the drawer into are falling off. I'm wondering if I should re-buy more cubes or switch to ikea something

+lynnseverydayideas mine are holding up well so far but I don't expect them to last forever at that price point. My oldest cubes are 8 years old and one of them has one drawer face that is breaking off. The rest are in great shape despite being moved and reconfigured several times. I'm pleased with them but if I had money all at once I would prefer IKEA units. Until This month, we haven't had an IKEA locally and I didn't really have a budget all at once to spend on units so buying individual cubes 1-4 at a time when they were on sale for 40% off worked really well for me. When IKEA opens here later this month I may replace some of my older cubes but it's not at the top of my list. I guess if you have a lot of cubes you could replace some of your older ones with something from IKEA (like the Alex unit) and keep the rest until they start falling apart. I will always have some cubes because I like the flexibility of reconfiguration.

+Tina Rehs yes the kits come in those bags. They are very sturdy and useful to have on hand. I'm not sure where you could get them but I would check places like Uline and maybe eBay.

I'm just so curious. Since you get new kits every month to use, when do you actually end up using your stash? Does it just continue to accumulate or are you able to put a dent in it every now and then? I enjoyed watching your process. I"ve watched you do this before and I don't get tired of it.

+Wendy England I try to scrap a layout or two from my stash each month, which doesn't really put a dent in it, but keeps me afloat. I also give away a lot (although not typically 12 x12 items because of shipping) and a few times a year I do some stash busting where I make a bunch of layouts just using my stash. My kids and even my husband sometimes dip into my stash for various projects through the year as well and sometimes we do papercrafting when kids have friends over.
