She's a bit of a bookworm and she's wise beyond her years, always has been, while also being pretty serene and funny. I think it's great development for Meredith to give the thought of leaving Seattle a chance. She used to cling so hard to it. Realistically, moving with her kids to a new city with a great job is something that could make her very happy. She'd obviously miss everyone and be missed but she wouldn't need to loose touch, and she'd find new friends. Look at Jackson e.g., he left his "work family" too but moved with the love of his life and kid away, and will be happy. Or Callie, or Arizona, they were extremely close to many people in the hospital, but with their small family together in a great environment, that makes up for it. Because of the show people like to think that Mer can't survive anywhere or without anyone in the hospital, but she can, and the show needs to end at some point. her moving happily would be a great ending.

I think it shows real growth in her character. It was once unthinkable for her to move. The only time she gave it thoughtful consideration and was prepared to do it was after her residency. But now she’s ready to flourish somewhere new and expand her horizons. She’s not afraid of being alone.

My favorite scene out of all greys anatomy episodes is when Derek is searching the hospital for Zola after finding out she had to have emergency surgery (back when they were still in the adoption process). Patrick Dempsey did such a fantastic job acting out a fathers love for his daughter and ready to move mountains to get to her no matter the cost. No matter how many times I watch it, I always get chills. He loved all of his kids but his connection with Zola was always something I loved seeing, it’s just something about the child that makes you a parent… I wish they would have given them two more time together on screen. He would certainly be proud of her.

Some of you must not know Meredith very well if you think her only consideration for moving to Minnesota is for a budding relationship. Meredith is bored with her job. She won an award she never thought she would. And she’s grown so much from when she first arrived in Seattle. Now she’s being offered a dream job with some serious benefits. Meredith loves her kids and her work and that’s her top priority in her decision. I need you to stop comparing this decision with the one back in s11. They are vastly different in context, and you sound like you have the emotional maturity of a 15yro. Derek was forcing Meredith’s hand and hadn’t cared one iota about her opinion in the matter. He only cared about D.C. as it pertained to him and his career. Meredith asked her daughter and values what she has to say about uprooting and settling somewhere new.

What is it with the "She can't move for Nick" comments? Meredith is probably falling in love with Nick (who wouldn't?) but her possibility of moving to Minnesota is entirely work-driven. She was offered an incredible job and she did say she doesn't want to "just" be chief of surgery anymore. Stop making everything about relationships, it makes you sound superficial.

Also, it wouldn't have been good for their relationship because he was asking for the wrong reasons, and he still thought his career was more important (because he was older so his career was naturally further along). Giving him his way would have ended up damaging their relationship more in the long run, as well as her career. It was really important that she say no in that situation. Now, this is very different. She is very well established in her career and has power. In fact this would be good for her career.

That is very lame excuse for her character to move. It’s just bad writing how they are having her move. Hell if she was leaving the USA in search of better medical practices that would make sense. Going Doctors Without Borders. Going to the more medical advice countries to learn and develop new medicine. Getting something she really couldn’t get at her current hospital. So many things that would make sense for the character.

I really disliked this scene, personally. Why can't they ever let Zola be a kid? Why isn't she allowed to ever be upset or angry? She's talking about taking Zola away from her aunts, who raised her almost as much as her mom did. From every friend she's ever had. And we're supposed to believe she doesn't have _any_ bad feelings or hesitation? I guess maybe she thinks she'll get to spend more time with her mom if they all move full time to Minnesota. And she's a kind of selfless child who worships her mom. But I feel bad that Zola's made to act _so_ perfectly grown up. It's not healthy for a child to always be putting her mom's feelings first and always be being so grown up.

Plus so much has happened to her since then, the attack, jail, covid and her dreams with Derek... It gave her clarity about what she wants in life. @@angelaborgia7991 Yes, although it must be more than age because Zola was having on screen conversations when she was much younger than Bailey is now, or maybe even Ellis. Maybe they cast the younger siblings based on appearance and then realised they aren't very comfortable acting?

It’s not even a question of maturity. Zola saw her mother suffer incredible pain multiple times but also thrive professionally and she’s herself attracted to her profession. She trusts her mother with the choice that will concern their family. Plus this isn’t a family comedy so nobody wants her to oppose her.

@@angelaborgia7991 exactly, it's not a realistic behavior for a kid. I'm not against Meredith moving to Minnesota (honestly I don't think she will for plot reasons) but there's no way a 12 years old would be 100% okay with it the second Mer told her, without thinking about her friends, schoolmates or even her siblings' that are even younger than her.

@@Elenuur All kids are different. I think that's what you're not getting. Some kids are happy to move, especially if they know it'll make their parents happy. Zola was being practical. She may not be thinking of the cons. Besides she's around 11-12 years old now. She's not a little kid.
