The wrecks are known as the ghost fleet of Truk Lagoon and are scattered throughout the lagoon's crystal-clear waters, where there are virtually no ocean currents. Divers can peacefully dive over the decks, which are filled with gas masks and depth charges.
Wrecks
Below the decks, numerous human remains can be found. In the holds of the massive ships, there are rows of fighter planes, tanks, tractors, railway wagons, motorcycles, torpedoes, mines, bombs, boxes of ammunition, radios, and thousands of other weapons, spare parts, and other artifacts.
Of special interest is the wreck of the submarine I-169 Shinohara, which was lost while diving to avoid an attack on the island. The coral-encrusted debris shelters rich marine fauna, including manta rays, turtles, sharks, and corals. The wrecks are hundreds of meters long, with some reaching more than 150 meters. Incredibly well-preserved, these lie at various depths (ranging from 5 to 60 meters deep). #mergulho
