Merkur Futur - First Shave

This morning's shave was with my Futur and Rockwell stainless blade. I used it at "5.5" for all three passes, then dialed it down to "1" to go against the grain under the nose. A very good razor.

I like the futur. A good friend gifted me a matte finish when I 1st got into wetshaving. On 1-3 it’s a great daily driver. 3 is very efficient. Glad you like the TOBS soap.

Shaved the last two days with my Merkur Futur. Personna (USA) blade. Great shave on setting 4. I've got numerous razors, including American made titanium ones. I love the sport of shaving with the Futur. As much as people like to hate on this razor, I plan to keep it in my rotation for the foreseeable futur(e).

Same here. I had a cheap clone and that wasn't too bad but now I got a real Futur and I really like it.

I don't know why but when you put the razor on the highest level for some reason my Anxiety Levels went to the max😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

When you load your blade you, have to match the top plate and base plate. There is a rectangle shape under the top cap and on the base plate as well, match them together when loading your blade. I, found that out on Merkur's KZbin channel.

Can you post a link to the Merkur KZbin channel please. I can't seem to find it. I found the rectangle on the bottom of the top cap but all I can see on the base plate is Merkur and the company name. Thank you.

Excellent shave Heiko, glad you have the original Futur, I love it with an Astra green in it, I get bbs with setting 1-3, very smooth shaver but I never tried setting 6😬

What’s nice about the Futur is you can disassemble the whole razor to clean it, it’s only 5 parts.

Moin Heiko, prima Rasur! Ich habe mir nach kurzer Zeit der Abstinenz auch wieder einen Futur zugelegt. Diesmal die Ausführung 702 (Gold). Hatte ja eine kurze Zeit nur den Klon von QShave hier, aber das Original habe ich dann doch vermisst. Stufe 6 finde ich schon recht mutig. Bei meinen Rasuren drehe ich maximal auf Stufe 4 hoch und das auch nur dann, wenn ich etwas 'Action' brauche. Ansonsten reicht mir locker Stufe 3. Herzliche Grüße Jörg

7:00 Funny, it's the badger prickliness that I enjoy over the soft smoothness of the synth brushes. I imagine it's nicely exfoliating my skin, but it does limit the amount of time I can face lather because it will eventually cause irritation.

I see how that could be enjoyable but I do have relatively sensitive skin. I like the soft brushes with a strong backbone.

How quickly you cut the hair is going to make it seems sharper.

I kind of ruined the plating on my Mühle R89 recently when I didn't take the blade out and forgot to loosen the handle. There are some fine corrosion/pitting lines where the blade cutout edges touch the top cap near the blade posts. Sent Mühle some pics and they agreed it's some kind of galvanic corrosion probably due to the rather hard water (minerals/built up soap scum) we have here in Berlin. They recommend to always take the blade out. Thought I let you know, so you don't ruin the gems in your collection.

It is a Simpson Trafalgar T1. It is pretty small even though it is a 23 mm knot but with a low loft.

Great shave! Those were very small nicks, they'll heal quick. The real futur seems to shave better than the chinese one. You've made me want to try Taylor of old bond street, I've been wet shaving for years and have never got around to trying their creams.

Not a fan of the Futur, due to how bulky it is as you mentioned. I do like the Merkur Progress, it's an excellent adjustable razor. The Futur is just so huge.
