I used to work security all night long... Everyday, 12 midnight to 6 am. I had an entire tire plant to myself. Made an xtra 13k that year so I could pay my mortgage. Worked an 8 hour job during the day. I used to play this song (among other MH greats) over the intercom and ride the forklift crazily all over the 200,000 sq ft of the place. Best time of my life.....

A great songwriter like Merle makes you feel like he wrote the song for you. The Working Man's Poet is one of the greatest talents ever to exist in any genre of music. I am blown away by just how talented this dude is. The clips of him and his band in the earlier period before he grew a beard and became more real, were damn good - very accomplished musos. But later he blossomed and its sometimes surprisingly difficult to tell if you are listening to a country singer, a bluesman or a big band type jazz band

This is probably played with a backing track, since Pop music shows want their performers play using backing tracks. If this was live, Merle could've improvised a bit

This song and era is possibly the height of his musical career. Singers like me who learn from his voice and his phrasing are just in awe of his immense charismatic style. Ramblin Fever is not an easy song to perform,. There a sections that are very different and require great interpretation -Also note he's playing his iconic Telecaster in this song, and even though he's not a true guitar player, session players would probably give him a passing grade on his solo here. There's only a handful of musicians since Bach, that are musically emulated like Merle.

I like how his guitar solos are so melodic and compliment the song, so many kids on you tube just string a load of scales together and play really fast, sure they're good but they're clueless about how to use all that (too much) info. I prefer this guys approach

One of the original outlaws of country music. Outlaw Country music originated on the west coast, not Austin but Bakersfield, California and Los Angeles. Waylon, Willie, and the Austin outlaw country came later. Nothing wrong with that just laying down a little history. I should know, I was there. Thank you for these videos. I hardly watch network TV anymore now that I have KZbin. Guess you could say that's my network now.!

Never have I heard the artists of Bakersfield Sound of Country music referred to as Outlaws. Buck Owens, Haggard, Red Simpson. Waylon Jennings was the first to publicly 'buck the system' using his own band members to record his albums. Thus breaking a contract between RCA and their session players.
