Ha! That's a nice thing to hear. I'm pleased that you're finding the study of Merleau-Ponty worthwhile and I'm glad that my videos are helping.

Even if the sun is shining and the sound of birds singing and the sounds of a flowing river or stream, if we are depressed or unhappy or anxious we are not interested in our surroundings. Artists try to give meaning to themselves because they are not focused on their surroundings but their inner solitude and subjectivity.

But which particular print of Merleau-Ponty's are you referencing? I love the quotes you bring up but I can't find them in the Merleau-Ponty aesthetics reader copy that I have.

I'm referring to the translation of "Eye and Mind" included in *The Primacy of Perception,* published by Northwestern University Press.

Philosophers just create more questions than answer's like other forms of knowledge ie; science and psychology.

Mr.Russon, Do we need actually comprehend Heidegger before start Merleau-Ponty. What is the consequence of your continental Philosophy lectures
@JohnRusson1232 жыл бұрын
Hello David. You do not need to study Heidegger before studying Merleau-Ponty. This particular lecture is part of a series in which I spoke first about Heidegger, and that is why I refer back to his ideas. Even without watching those Heidegger lectures, though, I imagine you could get something out of this lecture. If you want a proper introduction to Merleau-Ponty, you should listen to my lectures on his *Phenomenology of Perception*.
