Ya know Merlin you are a good guy. You give to the people around you that do without asking for anything in return. Giving him that Model T is awesome. He is a great part of your show I always like when he is on. He has a great energy for your channel. His positive attitude even when it's not looking good and great personality adds too every episode he is on.

All the adventures you guys are going to have together running around the desert with a buddy chasing each other up and down the trails. These will be fun for parades and community events. I can see we have some fun content coming up over the next few years. What a cool gift for a really great friend. This was a fun watch.

The old timer down the street from me. We call her Grandpa twice a year. He would put a leather belt soaked in oil. On every one of the bearings, on his crankshaft, it was an old farm all F20 from the early 30s. I believe never ran a full throttle. But that thing would just constantly go Happy new year

Welcome, Brad, to the blessing and curse of Model T ownership. Remember Model T's can be Magnetic- they stick together-if you are not careful one can become two, then three. Before you know it, you are giving them away to your friends.... Still, the most fun you can have at 35mph.

I’m 71 year old Brit, and I learned to drive in a 1947 MCC PV (Morris Commercial Cars Parcels Van). It was a four-speed crash-box on a 4cylinder 2lt petrol engine, and eventually it suffered from horrendous rod-knock. One winter, my dad (who was just a clerk, with a rudimentary knowledge of mechanics) pulled the sump off, and lead-loaded all the con-rods and caps, pairing them down with his penknife using jewelers blue to identify the high-spots. Imagine how long that took😳 Anyway, it ran like new once he’d finished.

Merlin I am very glad that KZbin offered me this delightful video. Very impressed with you let's have fun video. You are very knowledgeable about how work on old cars and practical. You all are in the perfect place to drive an old Model T. You were amazing. You said what you wanted to do and did it. I am pleased to subscribe and will enjoy looking at your videos past and what you post in the future. Love your generosity and ability to teach the joys of fixing a car, getting it drivable, and teaching Billy how to drive a T, and keep it running. Your garage and tool collection is impressive too. By good your and Billy's example you made this afternoon delightful. We're off to a great start in the new 2025 year. Kind regards, Blaine Halley Santa Cruz, CA. 😎

From what I recall from talking with those that owned Model T`s, leather in a Con Rod Brg was only a temporary repair to get one home, usually made from Owners Pants belt........same as packing a tire with grass when you got a puncture ( if tube couldn`t be fixed on side of the road )

There is an old Boy (Lester Harris) in Minden, Nevada, that has more old parts for the older cars than anybody that I know of. Most parts are still in the box they came in, you might look up Harris Parts or something like that, if you need something you cannot find. Good prices and he is neat to talk with.

My dad worked at a shop in New Mexico when he was a kid. He told me that the owner took in an old Lincoln on trade that had a rod knock and replaced that rod bearing with a piece of leather that he had shaved down to the right thickness. That piece of leather made several trips back east and as far as my dad knew it was never replaced.

I have a 1915 Model T. Ive rebuilt the engine, transmission, carburetor, gas tank, radiator, king pins, upholstery and top. Just can't seem to get it to run smoothly. I suspect after watching this video, I should advance the spark more when I get it started. 60 years ago I drove this in a parade after some coaching with my dad and uncle, then parked it for over 50 years. Ive forgotten some of the finer points in driving it.

My father used to share a depression era story about running with cousins out in the country. While running down a dirt road in a cousin's model T, they spooked a jackrabbit. They took to chasing it in the car because, well, bagging a rabbit would mean having a decent supper that night. As they caught up with the rabbit, cousin Orville commented "I'd try to go faster, but there is only a 16 penny nail holding the right front wheel on ... "

In 1976 my 1972 Dodge Van with 225 /6 developed a knock. .030 over on top and .020 over and 2 pcs aluminum foil on bottom. Got me home from Florida to Ohio. Old timer gave me the idea. He tells of cutting his boot tongue 👅 for a rod bearing on his flathead Ford. “IF IT WORKS WAS IT A DUMB IDEA?”
