I believe that it was in the late 90's that Darrell Klompmaker (who was General Manager at Whiskey River RR and Merrick Light Locomotive works) made a trip to England to see two of the 15" gauge railroads. I know one was the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch. He told me that just when he thought that they (Whiskey River) had quite the grand scale railroad, he saw the RH&DC and knew that he has a long way to go still. Was very impressed with their operation. Today, Darrell is paying the bank to own what Lee left when he passed away.

That deisel locomotive for a farm? Is it the guys toy? Because something that sized pulling enough open topped freight carriges on a really big farm could make gathering a harvest of vegetible goods more efficient then single trailers behind a tractor. Especially if the farm is not on open flat terrain - in winding valleys, that thing would be miles ahead.

Didn’t they have a big boy or some articulated that was being regauged from 24” at one time?
@phantombrakeman49833 жыл бұрын
They had bought some ones 14 and 1/4 inch gauge trains years ago. The big engine was a 2-8-8-4 and the tender did get re-gauged. They have been so busy with orders that they had not worked on any of the others. Some one has bought all the 14 1/4 and took it to France where there is 14 1/4 gauge railroad to run on. @phantombrakeman49834 жыл бұрын
Based on UP 9000 series, 4-12-2s. I believe that they are not going to make it look like the full size locomotive. Will not have the air pumps on the front of the boiler and the tender is not like the 9000s used. As of now it is not sold to anyone, so right now it's going to be free lanced. @@jamesm6638 they were designed for long, flat, straight track, and weren't "highly successful".... they were plagued with maintenance issues. Taking a long wheelbase like that around a curve is mean to the track
@jamesm66383 жыл бұрын
@@user-cu9kz5ec8o interesting, because UP liked them so much that they bought 88 of them... after the initial mechanical issues with the 3rd cylinder were solved, they could be found all across the system, even places like sherman hill, but after the challengers and big boys took over the more curvy mountainous areas they were used extensively on the kansas division, also in nebraska and on the line up to pocatello, Idaho... they served into the mid 50's and were loved by engineers and firemen, with one claiming "the easiest locomotive to fire, since I've been here, was a 9000. Anyone could fire a 9000, absolutely anybody". The only people who didn't like them were the shop crews and people keeping track of expenses, but that could be said for any 3-cylinder class... so yeah, for what they are, I'd consider them highly successful
