Mesa Community Action Network | A New Leaf

Mesa faces many pressing community challenges, with families and households struggling to keep up with rising living costs.
A New Leaf’s Mesa Community Action Network, or MesaCAN, assists low-income households across Mesa with a variety of needs. Resources offered include financial assistance, health assistance, educational assistance, employment assistance, financial coaching, and economic development.
MesaCAN is able to give financial support to help Mesa residents facing crisis. This support includes preventing evictions and utility shut-offs through emergency rent and utility assistance. These are critical resources to help households avoid homelessness or financial duress, simply due to temporary circumstances.
Additionally, MesaCAN emphasizes the health and wellness of families in the Mesa community. In partnership with the Women Infants & Children program, as well as Maricopa County Public Health, MesaCAN hosts a wide assortment of health resources including immunizations, nutrition information, and referrals to other healthcare and social services.
MesaCAN also provides low-income households with resources to improve financial literacy and access to education in the community.
An onsite financial coaching program works with households to achieve financial stability. Personal finance coaches work with participants to establish budgets, encourage savings, and improve general financial wellness. Appointments with a financial coach are available upon request. Financial workshops are offered to the public free of charge.
Additionally, MesaCAN works to assist the community with furthering their education. MesaCAN provides this assistance in the form of Asset Building Programs to help pay for post-secondary education. Additional resources with college enrollment, financial aid, and career advisement help members of the community move forward.
MesaCAN also offers economic development programs to local entrepreneurs and small business owners with one-on-one training and technical assistance as well as business planning through free workshops and mentoring.
MesaCAN brings all of these resources into a single, convenient location - giving households a one-stop shop to avoid crisis, find stability, and get ahead.
