MESBG Army Review - Numenor

One of the smallest but strongest factions in the game. This faction may only have a few models, but they all can pack a punch! Check out my thoughts on Numenor! I recently dusted off my untouched 'Fellowship of the Ring' boxed set from 2001. It looks to me like the 'Men of Gondor' figures in that set-with wings on their helmets-have (along with Isildur and Elendil, which were not in that set but were shown in the rulebook) been repurposed into the Númenor army since then. Remember, the only non-orkish soldiers seen in the first movie were those from the Last Alliance in the prologue, and so those provided the models for the GW sculpt. Am I correct? Do I now have a squad of Númenor regular infantry to paint? Of course, the other Good faction in the box are High Elf Warriors, i.e., Rivendell, from the same prologue. It is impressive to me that ME:SBG is substantially the same game as the first 2001 set. A new player can learn the most basic rules from the Fellowship rulebook and, as near as I can tell, nothing they learn will be _wrong_ although of course incomplete.

you are correct. the only look at a Man faction was the intro for movie with the Last Alliance. They have been redubbed Numenorians since then. I just whipped out the OG original book from the boxed set and they are titled Captain of Gondor and Men of Gondor. It is awesome how models have been repurposed to help the game expand. And you are very right about the easy of learning. The basic mechanics of the game are still the same going all the way back to 22 years ago. The only big thing that has changed are all the magic, special strikes, special abilities, heroic actions, monsters, cavalry, and other advanced parts of the game. If you understand the basic mechanics, the rest comes with time and practice! Have fun painting up those OG models!!

I assume they're gonna do an expansion book for pre war of the ring battles where Arnor, Barad dur and Numenor get the spotlight (could even throw in a LL from a few other places too) Where we finally get Anarion.

I expect the next large supplement release to be Numenor. It has been almost 5 years now. The fact that GW put Anarion in back in 2018 was not foresight like Elrond and Arwen, simply them wanting to do something that they changed their minds on shortly thereafter.

@@ardascholar5289 I actually have a shneaky shneaky theory that they were planning on the new starter set being Last alliance vs Barad dur. Hence the random drop of Elrond, an elf banner, and Glorfindel. Add an Isildur or Elendil and a plastic Sauron and your golden. However, balancing issues around the lack of plastic elf or numenor spearmen, and how to balance Sauron in a starter game were probably obstacles they couldn't overcome.

@@judgejudyandexecutioner.5223 thats a good theory. I could definitely see that being a possibilty as well as agrer with its limitations. A new plastic kit for elves and numenor would be great though

@@judgejudyandexecutioner.5223 I suspect that GW was expecting far more 'buzz' for the Last Alliance (and perhaps earlier Second Age battles) from the Amazon 'Rings of Power' series. Alas, that series was a dud as far as pop culture goes, and they may have shelved the idea for now.

i did fiefdoms a couple months back. check them out to get an idea of what you like and I will start on Minas Tirith for you. One of my favorite armies because of how diverse it is!

That is a good question. Yall have to ask GW. They gave him a place holder for what we all consensusly assumed was going to be a Last Alliance source book within 2 years but it seems it will mever happen
