One message that must reach the west is what happened to the used panty vending machine. Some people go there expecting to see one regularly. They don't realize that such machines were banned a long time ago. Most just pretend to sell used panties, the same way that clothing companies sell new jeans with holes in them. I think the nearest comparison to idol culture might be vTuber fans and OnlyFans sponsors. I figured the people in Japan who did learn English would do so, only if they had English language hobbies. Maybe that is because when I met someone who tried to learn Japanese, their hobbies were either RPG video games or anime. I tried and failed. I would comfort myself by asking "What was I going to accomplish anyway? Maybe translate an obscure comic for a few dollars a month?"

In case some people think you're joking about the whole Chinese thing - it's real. No joking, in every legal and technical sense all things are owned by the Chinese communist party and even more specifically the People's Liberation Army. Seriously. Chinese Mainlanders do NOT own a home. They are only leasing it from 'the party' for some 70 years at a time and do not own the land underneath the home. Likewise, legally, constitutionally, the money they use is party property and as crazy as this sounds - so are their children. Not a joke. This is the very real verifiable, written codified laws of PRC China.

@@WANDERER0070 You mean the lease can be extended. Yes, it's possible to continue leasing it from the PLA for another 30 or 70 years. btw, there are homeless all over China; see me stepping over them on my way to work or wondering when they'll stop living under the bridge near my home.
