Being able to play this all in one take and remember it is genuinely kind of baffling. Kudos to you for taking on the challenge, and god bless your poor right hand.

Thank you very much, but I'm sorry to disappoint you by saying that this is definitely not taken from memory. I remember several parts of the entire intro but far from the whole thing.

I read an interview with Tomas Haake years ago. He said it was all completely random. The guitarists had to map it out & basically memorize it (or play along to the tab in front of them)

The first section made me feel so anxious for you, lol. 👏 You are probably the only person in the world who *currently* knows how to play this song. Years ago, a friend of mine asked Tomas Haake if Meshuggah would ever perform "I" live. Tomas said it was all recorded in separate sections and had never been performed in its entirety. "No knows how 'I' goes."

@@DannyJ_bass Make sure to perform antagonistic movements and stretch after playing. The only danger is related to wrists.
@DannyJ_bass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'll have to Google this
@AlexandarShmex2 жыл бұрын
@@DannyJ_bass I'll make it easier for you - for your fingers search for "banded finger extensions", you can use any elastic band, but there are products that are fitted on every finger. This is to stop elbow tendonitis from developing, by countering the action of squeezing the pick. You can do a set or two for 20 reps after each practice, followed by stretching (wrist extension and flexion with the arm straightened trough various angles). Also, it's advisable to do high rep banded biceps curls and triceps extensions occasionally, with very light resistance, also to balance out the elbow joint. Perform a single set of 30-100 reps every 2-3 days. For the wrists, care should be taken and very light loads should be used, exercises to perform are simple: wrist flexion, extension and ulnar/radial deviation. Do this for 2-3 sets of 15-20 reps 2 times per week as prehab. For the shoulders, it's important to do face pulls and rotator cuff exercises on cables, you can find the exercises easily. They should be performed as a warm up on every upper body session. That should keep you playing and healthy for a long time :) Now I have to ask you: what exercise would you recommend for picking to me, I can't play with a pick. I need something that's scalable in difficulty, and best bang for the buck. I can focus on my picking about 20-30 minutes per day, since it's not that important to me, but I have to know it. Thank you.
@DannyJ_bass2 жыл бұрын
Cheers man! Thank for that long explanation. I actually started with facepulls and rotator cuff exercises before summer because I start feeling some stress in my left shoulder and my chiropractor told me that I hade alot more muscle mass on my left side of my back and that could be the reason for my spine locking up alot. It feels better now though so I'll continue to do my exercises and will look into the other things you mention. For picking technique I haven't really practiced any particular except for my Bleed cover and I cover. I have just played alot of metal with alternative picking riffs. I always start slow L, around 50% and then start increasing the speed by 5bpm as long as I can play the riff correct, when I hit my max I push up one more 5bpm and just put everything into it and then back down 10bpm and start over continuously pushing the limit forward. Hope it helps!

@@DannyJ_bass Indeed, I can get like maybe a third of the way there if I double stack the darkglass model, run some EQs, and then run it thru Fabfilter Saturn in Cubase and EQ it a bunch, but never quite satisfied with my results, I assume the passive EMGs (HZ) on my Schector 5 string are contributing to the flub I get which I always gotta fight.
