In 1996, people recorded on analoge tapes in the video cameras. The tape gives a "natural" compression on the audio recorded. That`s why so many old recordings have great sound. And because the possibility to control the rec volume on smart phones wasn`t available until recently, most amateur footage of concerts from ca 2000 until 2015ish is distorted and sound horrible.

I think what blows my mind the most is how this was 1996 when Jens was basically 30 years old, they'd only really started making music for like five years as Meshuggah but even in their 50's they're continuing strong as one of the most influential metal bands of the 21st century. We need to keep this music alive even after they've all retired - which doesn't look to be soon. We need people who can keep this music alive through performance. Their performances are eternalised, of course; but it shouldn't stop when they can't keep going. Thanks for uploading the whole show

Listen: I give the crowd mercy here. If you read the influences of this band from their Destroy Erase Improve album, they list Earth Wind and Fire as the FIRST one, then the obvious Metallica/Slayer/ etc, Primus, then they list movies of that day too. No one in 96 was going to see this band coming, or growing to be as popular as they are now. This is indeed INCREDIBLE history, solid sound, and honestly a typical performance for Meshugah. These men do not disappoint, no matter which era.

Where in their music can you find EWaF influences? Hahahha (not saying you're lying, but that's just weird and funny)
@holygroove24 жыл бұрын
@@chadmarx7718 They also site movies from that era. Influence is an interesting thing. As for EWaF, definitely the emphasis on the 1 unifying everything, and the way the riffs carry over the bar - listen to September. The verse riffs, and horn riffs later in the song. The riffs tend to syncopate for 2 bars at a time. Meshugah just took that idea WAY further, and their riffs syncopate for 4 bars before coming back on the 1. Thomas mentioned that what they do isn't new. Meshugah's approach to that idea is def unique, and THE thing that makes them stand out. They stretch their riffs out for 8 bars and sometimes 16 bars on Obzen.

It's suprising watching people who don't headbang at "Humiliative" because of the uneven riffs and time signatures ( 4:43, nor even in one of the most iconic Meshuggah breakdowns 7:03) , but immediately after "Transfixion" starts (pretty 4/4 thrashy/punk signature song) a lot of people start to move. 9:09 This gives you a reference of how polyrhytmic and progressive music wasn't even recognized as it does now at that moment. Freds spinning place is hilarious. It's crazy how much faster they played everything back then. BRUTAL!

They don't anymore? Cool, so I can absorb it better. I'm getting older too.

Best period of the band! I remember, haunted records shops for a year to buy their first CD. Epic times!

I remember being at a concert in about 2008-09 having never heard of Gojira before and seeing them live was insane. I didnt understand what I was hearing it was just so heavy I knew I needed more. Think it was 36crazyfists In Flames and All That Remains playing with them. I would be going nuts hearing this at the time.

Yes it was the come clarity or a sense of purpose your. I had the same shock listening to “the way of all flash” played live

First time I heard Gojira (2008 ish) I had just gotten out of 11th grade and a friend drove me home and popped their cd in the player. I lost my sh. It was great. Meshuggah tho, I was 13 (2004) and snuck downstairs as one does, to watch headbangers ball at 1 am in the living room, sound turned down so I wouldn't get caught. and saw the video for Shed. I had only heard black sabbath and godsmack beforehand. Djent changed everything.
