Plotlines for the episodes of Owl at Home: The Guest: The story begins with Owl at his home, during a cold winter night relaxing by the fireplace, eating buttered toast and hot pea soup for supper, but then Owl hears a knock on his door and he goes to answer it two times, but he finds nobody at the door, finally Owl comes to the conclusion that it was the winter storm that was knocking on his door and it possibly wanted to come in and sit by the fire, so Owl opens his door and kindly lets the winter storm come into his house and it happily comes in very fast. The winter storm ends up causing mayhem as soon it was in Owl’s house, it leaves snow all over Owl’s house, turns it into a cold freezing temperature and blows out the fire in Owl’s fireplace and freezes his pea soup into ice, a dismayed Owl orders the winter storm to behave, as it is his guest, but it refuses and continues to cause mayhem before covering Owl’s entire house interior with snow, angering Owl to the point of shouting at the winter storm to leave his house and never return and it instantly obeys. With the winter storm gone, and his house now peaceful again, Owl lights a new fire in his fireplace and makes his house warm again and it melts all the snow away, and Owl’s hard green ice melts back into soft pea soup and Owl then sits down in his chair and quietly finishes his supper. Strange Bumps: This story focuses on Owl in bed ready to go to bed, until he sees two bumps at the bottom of his bed under his blanket, unaware that the two bumps were actually his own two feet, Owl fearfully assumes that the bumps were monsters that will increase in size as he sleeps in bed, and dreads that will happen, as Owl moves his feet around, the bumps themselves move too, terrifying Owl even more, this eventually scares Owl to the point of pulling all his covers off his bed and doesn’t see the bumps there at all, just his own two feet. But Owl was unable to sleep with the covers off, as it was cold so he covered the bed with the covers again, only to see the same two bumps all over again, infuriating Owl to the point of jumping up and down on top of his bed admonishing the bumps for scaring and tormenting him all that night, and not letting him get any sleep, which causes Owl to break his own bed into pieces, and after that happens, Owl flees downstairs and decides to spend the rest of the night sleeping on his chair by the fire and leave his two bumps on his bed and let them grow as big as they wish and sleep on his chair where he won’t be bothered by them at all and that is what he does. Tear Water Tea: One evening, Owl decides to make tea water tea, a tea made out of tear water, and he gets the tea kettle out of the cupboard and sits on a chair and places the tea kettle on his lap and tells himself a poem of sad thoughts (Like broken chairs, songs that couldn’t be sung because the words have been forgotten, spoons that have fallen behind the stove and are never see again, etc.) which causes Owl to cry tears of sadness and the tears land inside the tea kettle, Owl continues this until the kettle is all filled up with his tears or tea water, deciding that that was enough, Owl stopped crying, puts tea formula into the kettle filled up with tea water and places onto the stove to boil into tea. After the tea is done boiling, Owl happily takes a drink of it, and confesses that even though tear water tea tastes a little bit salty, it always tastes very good. Upstairs and Downstairs: The story starts off by showing the upstairs and downstairs of Owl’s house, sometimes Owl was upstairs in his bedroom and other times he was downstairs in his living room, and whenever Owl was downstairs he would ponder on what he was going on up in his upstairs and whenever Owl was upstairs he would ponder on what was going on down in his downstairs, since he was always missing the action going on in the upstairs and downstairs whenever he was in one of those locations at once, despite the fact that Owl was the only resident in his house, Owl decided to find a way to be upstairs and downstairs at the same time, Owl soon enough decided to run upstairs and then downstairs very fast to try to be in both places at once. Owl successfully ran up and down the stairs very quickly but found himself unable to be upstairs and downstairs at the same time, Owl ran even faster than before, but still failed to be upstairs and downstairs at the same time. Finally, Owl stopped out of exhaustion and proclaimed that being upstairs and downstairs at the same time was indeed impossible before stopping to rest. He sat on the twelfth step of his staircase, because it was a place that was right in the middle, where he could be in between the upstairs and downstairs of his house instead of being in both places at once. Owl and the Moon: This story begins with Owl taking a stroll down to the seashore one evening and he watches as the sun sets and the Moon rises into the sky and the daylight sky turns into the night sky. Owl then talks to and befriends the Moon, despite the fact that the Moon can’t talk to him back. After watching the Moon for a while, Owl decides to go home to have supper and go to bed, promising the Moon that he will come back and visit it again some other night. As Owl walked back to his house through the woods, he suddenly sees the Moon in the sky as if it were following him, and Owl tries to tell the Moon to return to the sea where it looks so fine though it was kind of it to light his way back but the Moon still follows Owl, Owl tells the Moon that it can’t come home with him as it can’t leave orbit and come down to Earth to where he is and is to large to fit into his house and that he has nothing to give it for supper, but the Moon still follows Owl, finally Owl decides that the Moon can’t hear him so he walks to the top of a hill and shouts “Goodbye” to the Moon and it finally leaves Owl alone and goes behind some clouds, with Owl feeling regretful over pushing the Moon away, and he makes it back home, eats supper, puts his pajamas on and goes to bed, still feeling regretful over what he did, but then moonlight enters Owl’s bedroom and he looks out his window and sees the Moon up in the sky, coming out from behind the clouds, astonished, Owl thanked and praised the Moon for following him all the way back home and for being a good round friend and apologizes for pushing him away and the Moon forgives Owl. Owl then happily goes back to bed and goes to sleep with the Moon still outside in the night sky shining light into his bedroom.

One night I was driving a truck from Scotland down to Teeside England. Close to the border,you come to a roundabout where you can go straight on into Berwick or turn right, up the hill, headed towards Newcastle. As I started up the hill a Barn Owl came out of the trees and flew directly in front of the windshield for what seemed like 10-15 seconds. He was only a few feet in front of the truck and I had the most wonderful view of him. It's a moment and memory I'll never forget.

Owls have barbs on their first primary feathers which break up the wind to muffle the sound. Not just being graceful but their feather design is mainly why they have silent flight. Slightly mentioned in the video, low wing loading (small, light body with big wings) also helps generate lift in flight.

Unbelievably, a second later the owl flew silently past me and caught the poor hawk moth. That was mesmerizing to see, I did feel a bit bad for the moth but at the same time to see a moth fly right past me and caught the moth was fantastic! Amazing video! I just learned more about owls in 14 min. than I ever knew. As a hunter/fisherman/outdoorsman I've been listening to owls my whole life since I was a young boy and I never knew that they could fly silently in Stealth Mode. Years ago while turkey hunting I was slowly making my way up a steep hill early in the morning with barely enough daylight to see the ground when I saw movement coming straight at me, I put my hand up out of reflex and a small owl hit me directly in my right hand and left scratches down my cheek. When I told my Dad what happened he said that it probably saw the top of my cap moving as I walked and thought it was a squirrel or a mouse and judging by the small size of the owl it was probably a screech owl. Scary incident absolutely, if it wasn't for my fast reflexes I could have lost my right eye, yet only received a few scratches and the owl was unscathed as it flew away.

Really awesome !!! What if I could work on something like that? Research so beautifully is not possible without the BBC. But unfortunately I was born in a developing country for which this is not possible.

My dad brought a barn owl home one night. He'd been hit by a car and my dad wanted to save him. He put him on our upstairs bathroom window sill and fed him until his wing mended. This was in Alexandria, louisiana and he'd found the owl several miles from where we lived. That kind of makes me sad but at least he lived and one morning we woke up and he'd flown away. My dad had removed the screen weeks before and he'd been hopping back and forth to a tall magnolia tree. Was a sweet experience. He was very gentle.

Owls are my favorite animal ever, specifically barn owls. They just have this stoic and reserved nature that I resonate with. Plus, oh my god, they’re so cool as a species I just feel drawn to them.

I love the air of mystery surrounding owls. Although many falconry experts claim they are not intelligent, there are many sources that debate this in terms of long term study of these birds.
@leonefurlan1373 жыл бұрын
i don'nt think that experts meant "not intelligent",they are smart,but less than crows or ravens,those psychos are INCREDIBLE in problem solving,and figuring solutions etc.

A ' Human Owl ' since 1957 when my Chinese classmates nicknamed me ' Mao Tao Ying ' = Owl (in Cantonese) with big rounded short-sight glasses in Diocesan Boys School (DBS) in Hong Kong. We will be having our 60th Anniversary in November 2024 with me being the most senior at 80 in August. They still call me ' Mao Tao Ying ' having only one eye from a bad doctor in 2017. ALL THE BEST TO MY CHINESE CLASSMATES & FAMILIES! (from my home ' The City of Angels, Bangkok ')
