dried beef.....ghee.....flour....powdered milk are always basics in my pack !!! ........ chipped beef on toast or camp bread is just perfect on a cold morning with coffee !!

Great job cooking in the great outdoors chris. Good old cream chip beef on toast. We used to make hobo stew when camping. It was easy to do and you wrapped everything up in aluminum foil and put it over the camp fire. Always turned out great. Thanks for the video

I recon it’s probably right at or over 100% of recommended DV of sodium judging by the labels. The bread is probably around 20% for 3 slices. the beef is 60%, and I didn’t look up the canned milk stuff but I’m guessing upwards of 8%. Most hot sauce is around 6ish for a tsp. Might wanna bring some Metoprolol

I remember my mom making that. I usually would eat a slice of the beef before she made it. My mom also use to make my dad bologna gravy, I loved it. I started making it and my family loves it. It isn’t like the bologna gravy you look up on Google. All the recipes I found everyone uses flour, I don’t ever remember my mom using the flour in her bologna gravy. So, it is more like fried bologna and hot milk. I did a video making it last year on my channel when Jerod and his family was camping at Babcock State Park. Right on man. Looks really good. I like the toaster. Always a challenge making good toast in the woods. Sadly I took to toasting my bread at home and just heating it back up out there. It always turns out pretty soggy but soggy beats on fire and blackened in my book. Always great to see you Chris.

Thanks Steve! Burnt toast isn’t very good...this toaster really works best on a bed of hot coals, and okay on a Coleman stove (real low heat). I agree that slightly “damp” toast is better than “extra crispy” 😂

Yep... you’ve definitely consumed your fair share of sodium.... this was salty, for sure. Some people recommend soaking it in water for a while before using it. I think I’ll try that next time. 90% of the KETO KULT people I know gave up on that diet. The other 10% do look and feel better than they ever have though.... I don’t think I could do it but a big 👍🏻 to those who succeed

Chipped beef gravy over toast is one of my favs. I usually use an entire small jar since it molds so quickly after opening. I usually make enough for at least 4 servings though. Mine is a bit different then yours though. I may have even stashed some dried beef out on the AT with some canned goods. Looked great Chris as does camp. Rained most of the week here maybe that'll have mushrooms popping with this extremely warm november we're having. I still have peppers and tomatillos going here. TC and ATB, Cris.

This was a staple in the Army mess halls. It's been a while so I'm not sure that's still the case. There were so many jokes about this dish but I'll tell ya, the cook couldn't make enough of it. It's still one of my camp favorites.

Another dandy looking meal cooked at the camp. Mom always cooked a version of this that as a kid I called "Mud on a Mountain". Basically it was ground beef and gravy over a big scoop of mashed potato. Other times we would have the beef and gravy over toast (S.O.S.) This is still a common meal in our house for me and my son but my wife and daughter will usually have something different. I probably mentioned it before but here in Newfoundland it is much more common to add gravy browning colouring to our gravy. Too me it just looks better. The white or very light gravy tastes the same but to me looks weird. Funny the differences in recipes for different places..........Take care, Mike.

I fix it once a week and will until they roast me.... Growing up in a Military family (I'm 66 the youngest of 5 boys 1 of 2 surviving) money was always tight but mom made the best SOS. And it was the only time we could cuss around her. She'd get the giggles when me at age four would ask for "sit on a single" at age six she bust out laughing. I made it for my kids several times a month and now my grandkids. Our family was never one for formal dinners but family dinner time meant and means the world to us. .
