I'm Welsh, but lived in Buenos Aires for 2 years, back in 2000 and always couldn't figure out why they weren't champions; they've produced AMAZING players every WC but just couldn't get over the line. I was in tears and am sooooo happy for them and the country as they certainly needed a lift.

We were yelling, screaming, my legs shaking, my heart beat so fast when the goal is 2-2 and 3-3.. At the end Argentina got it. I'm French and was devastated when we lost, but Messi has been my favorite player for more than 14 years and I'm glad he finally won the World Cup; he deserves it. It's also heartening that the other players just let Messi hold the trophy because he's the oldest player on the team and has been vying for it for 16 years.

Happy for Di Maria, the guy deserves alot. Although Messi has been Argentina's best group stage and early knockout stages player in the 2014 world cup, 2015, 2017 and 2021 Copa Americas, Di Maria always stepped up in the finals (when he was not injured). I am certain they would have 2 world cups if he were fit in 2014, he deserves the happiness and praise.
