@BANGSO I did not watch Pele play in his era but he is the Undisputed GOAT based on not just his achievements in soccer but what he also did for the game outside the pitch....He brought it to the entire world and made it the beautiful Game.... Close to 1300 goals, 7 Balon Dors (please google and check this in case you do not know about this) plus 3 World Cups to his name...no one has that much achievement...add to that winning 2 world cups back to back plus youngest to play and score in a World Cup final at age 17.... Noone in this era has that much world cups which is the highest achievement in soccer...that on its own should end the GOAT debate unless people just wanna argue for the sake of it and don't want to use facts to get to the truth!!! And he achieved all this when the game was not like today where players are protected strongly...the pitches were not so good....no technology to enhance player performance and the footballs used were not the same like now....etc.... against all those disadvantages he still managed to do his magic and win 4 out of 4 world Cups he played in.....no one has and maybe will ever achieve that! If this is not GOAT status I donnot what is unless one is a hater!

You experience Messi, but before Pelé and what he did for the football is what enabled Messi to exist. Messi is the greatest nowadays, Pelé is the GOAT. Eternal. Respectfully, there is no comparison, he was a complete player, he was an athlete, not only a footballer. Strong, decisive, artistic, intelligent, generous. Ahead of his time.

Just looking at some of his stats are nuts. On World Cups: 4 tournments- 3 trophies 14 mathes- 12 goals and 9/10 assists (one of them is actually contested), wich of these are 3 goals and 3 assists on the 2 finals he played (1958 and 1970). Honestly if this doesn't make anyone shocked then I don't know what could do. Offical stats. The RSSSF states that Pelé scored 775 goals and 363 assists in 840 official games. The goals were like these: Club/team Matches Goals Santos FC 660 643 New York Cosmos 64 37 Brazil 92 77 Military Team 4 4 (contested), since some people puts these goals as unofficial Selection São Paulo 15 12 (contested) Other Selections 5 2 (contested) *TOTAL 840 775 (0.92 ratio)* *The Unofficial stats raised to up to 1366 games and 1283 (0.94 ratio) goals and more than 450 assists (this is difficult to see because a lot of games it was not common to count or note the assists). From these more than 500 unofficial games there are about 120 games against TOP European Clubs that were friendlies on wich he scored 90 goals, but sadly aren't counted.* Then you look at his records that still aren't beated by Messi or CR7 (remember that ALMOST every other record these two broke first belonged to Pelé). Records: *Joint-most goals for Brazil national football team: 77 (95 including unofficial friendlies) (tied with Neymar)* Highest goals-per-game ratio (0.84) for Brazil national football team Highest goals-per-game ratio (0.84) of any South American top international scorer Highest goals-per-game ratio (2.33) of any leading scorer in the Intercontinental Cup Most goals in the Intercontinental Cup: 7 Most goals for Santos: 643 (in 659 competitive games) Most goals scored in a single Campeonato Paulista season: 58 (in 38 competitive games,1958 *Most goals in a calendar year (including friendlies, recognised by FIFA): 127 (1959)* *Most hat-tricks in world football: 92* *Most hat-tricks for Brazil: 7* *Most career goals in world football (including friendlies): 1,283 (in 1,363 games)* *Most FIFA World Cup winners' medals: 3 (1958, 1962, 1970)* *Youngest winner of a FIFA World Cup: aged 17 years and 249 days (1958)* *Youngest goalscorer in a FIFA World Cup: aged 17 years and 239 days (for Brazil vs Wales, 1958)* *Youngest player to score twice in a FIFA World Cup semi-final: aged 17 years and 244 days (for Brazil vs France, 1958)* *Youngest player to score a hat-trick in a FIFA World Cup: aged 17 years and 244 days (for Brazil vs France, 1958)* *Youngest player to play in a FIFA World Cup Final: aged 17 years and 249 days (1958)* *Youngest goalscorer in a FIFA World Cup Final: aged 17 years and 249 days (for Brazil vs Sweden, 1958)* *Youngest player to score twice in a FIFA World Cup Final: aged 17 years and 249 days (for Brazil vs Sweden, 1958)* Youngest player to start a knockout match at a FIFA World Cup *Youngest player to reach five FIFA World Cup knockout stage goals* *Youngest goalscorer for Brazil national football team: aged 16 years and nine months (Brazil vs Argentina, 1957)* *First player to score in three successive FIFA World Cups* *One of only five players to have scored in four different FIFA World Cup tournaments* *One of only five players to have scored in two different FIFA World Cup Finals* Scored in two FIFA World Cup Finals for winning teams (shared with Vavá) *Most assists provided in FIFA World Cup history: 10 (1958-1970)* *Most assists provided in a single FIFA World Cup tournament: 6 (1970)* *Most assists provided in FIFA World Cup Final matches: 3 (1 in 1958 and 2 in 1970)* *Most assists provided in FIFA World Cup knockout phase: 6 (shared with Messi)* Most goals from open play in FIFA World Cup Final matches: 3 (2 in 1958 and 1 in 1970) (shared with Vavá, Geoff Hurst, Mbappé and Zinedine Zidane) -- Now broken by Mbappe with 4 (with you put the extra time, only on the regular 90 min, Mbappé also has 3) Only player to reach 25 international goals as a teenager Only player to score in a FIFA World Cup before turning 18 *Only player to score a hat-trick in a FIFA World cup before turning 18* Only player to have scored a hat-trick in the Intercontinental Cup. Great video, I'm 43 years old, and from my point of view, taking into account that he started playing in the mid-50s...the boots weighed 500g, the ball 450g, and the defenders really broke legs... It was a ahead of his time, he invented the tunnels between the legs, and all kinds of dribbling. Quick and skilful like Ronaldinho, he took free kicks, finished off like Cristiano with his head, and finished off with both legs like Zidane. and of course he slipped away from everyone like Messi. But he did it 70 years ago and won 3 World Cups, the first of them at just 17 years old, and 1000 goals...

I just gonna say ONE thing, and this is why he's the king. Back them when he was destroying every single one of the defenders and scoring a lot of Goals, there wasn't Yellows and Red Cards, so the defenders had a free pass to punch, kick and hurt the fowards.... And even so they couldn't stop him. Can you imagine, Messi, Neymar, Mbape playing a game without cards, just fouls???

Guys we should not argue this stuff. Pele is the greatest, you don't need to be born in his generation to know that. Look at every player you want to put up there and see if Pele is missing anything. And he was there for the ambassadorship of the sport so what else can you as of a person. The coaches of today teach principles and skills they learnt from people who copied Pele. Add to that that the sport wasn't even as lucrative as it is now but he help to bring it to a money spinning status with his work. Let's no disrespect him by comparing him to anyone. Not even being a Messi fan should blur one's vision cos he pales in both pace, dribbles, dexterity and intelligence with the ball. The younger generation is just fortunate to seem to have it all now: tutelage, fame, money, glamour. He's the greatest without sentiments

He was a complete player, quick and fast, he could head the ball with power and placement, he could kick the ball with either foot, he could pass very well, he could dribble like no other. Man, you did a great analysis. Something that is even hard to notice on the videos because of quality, but Pelé could play on the same level with his both legs. Many of those powerful shots (and goals) he did using not only his right leg, but also the left one as well. Something else that I heard about when watching his film is that he was used to use the opponent to dribble and get out of tough situations. He would kick the ball on the opponents legs for example to get the ball further ahead and drible multiple of them at the same time. He did that several times through his career. Again great video. Thanks for sharing it.

Well done young man. You're probably, the first millennial, KZbin football content creator, that accurately captured what O'Rei was. Super break down. You also crucially mentioned. The inferiority of the muddy pitches, heavy boots, slower traveling football's, Pelé had to contend with & master. For Dribble prowess , pass prowess, world class with both feet prowess, heading prowess , tackling prowess , free style skills prowess, prolific goalscoring prowess, speed/ athleticism/agility prowess. ( compared to today's dream, billiard ball playing surfaces, faster moving balls, lighter boots & kits). Not to mention, the rough tackling, brutals fouls, back then. He also had no billion dollars, super team's. Featuring the best players from around. To ply his trade in. Like Messi & Ronaldo had/ have. And yet. Ok, let's be a bit fair here. Pele had to deal with the muddy pitches, heavy boots, etc. But so did Pele's opponents in trying to stop him! So I never understood this argument, as if these conditions magically changed outside of the circle around Pele. And one thing he did not have to contend with was the physical conditioning of ALL players today. Most players back then outside the most top-level could not hold a candle to modern players in terms of raw speed, core strength, etc. So one could argue Pele had much weaker opposition from a sheer physical sense. And he didn't have super teams assembled for him, but he also didn't play any super teams, or even moderately great teams. Again, I am not saying Pele wasn't number 1 or demeaning what he did. I just don't like it when we get carried away claiming everything in the past was against a great player, and nothing was going for him.

If the players of Pelé's era where privy to what today's players have. They'd be just as fast. Yes: There's more running & pressing in the modern game. But there's less *_hard_* physical contact. Reason why Messi can hold the ball tight, in pocket area's, doing circles & the ďefenders surrounding him, hardly touch him. If he did that during the 1960s across to the 1990s. He'd be up in the air, like Superman without his cape. From the hefty kick's, lunges, from the hatchet men of that time. Just look at the last world cup & the amount of stupid penalties given, for hardly a touch on the player! As soon as the player in ball possession, *_feels_* the slightest contact, around & in the box. He's down, throwing himself around like a banshee, like he's just been taken out by John Rambo! Most of these modern players, should be in a Hollywood script! And yes: The players from the past, had to overcome far greater adversities, to produce the type of magical football they conjured up. That goal @24:04 is one of my favourite goals ever. From 1958, his second goal in the world cup final when he was only 17 years old. Absolutely crazy gifted. Even though he was 5 foot 8 he could outjump any defender, the power he had was unbelievable, his touch was incredible (the most important skill in my opinion), his footballing IQ was genius levels, and I think I remember hearing once he could do the 100m in about 11 seconds. Even by today's football standards that's pretty good, you won't find many players breaking 11 seconds. At one point you were like "what's the keeper doing there?" They didn't know what to do back then. Pele was so good and creative, they had to rethink how to do stuff in order to stop him. The only way in the 1962 and 1966 world cups teams managed to stop him was to hack his legs and take him out via injury.

Pelé was the most complete football player in history. He kicked with both legs perfectly, had an absurd impulse to head the ball, had an incomparable control of the ball - the ball "glued" to his chest - often doing it in mid-air, he knew how to score goals and assisted his colleagues, he was fast, lethal and insinuating and even as a goalkeeper he acted and acted with excellence. And at a time when the ball and clothing were heavier, the boot was anatomically inferior, the football fields were inferior, he played most of the time when there were neither yellow nor red cards, that is, the beating was constant. That's why Pelé is the King of football, THE GOAT! After him comes the other stars!

Hey, man, great reaction to an awesome player. Pele is before my time as well, but I've always regarded him as the G.O.A.T. Btw, I believe he scored over 1200 goals. Also, as I understand it, he played mostly during the time when Brazil was under a dictatorship, and the dictator who worshiped young Pele, prohibited him (and other Brazilian players) from playing professionally outside of Brazil, so that's the main reason that he did not play professionally in Europe. However, his Brazilian club toured worldwide and played in international tournaments, and they usually won the World Club titles and defeated all the top teams in Europe with Pele putting on a master class. So, yes, while he didn't play for European teams, his Brazilian club dominated European teams. There's a 2017 (or 2016) Hollywood movie that used to be on Netflix about young Pele called "Pele: Birth Of A Legend". The movie focuses on Pele from when he was around 8 years old to 17 years old and shows his journey from a poor boy with humble beginnings, who then led Brazil to its first-ever World Cup title when he was only 17. To this day, Pele is the youngest person ever to score in a World Cup...the youngest ever to have a hat trick in the World Cup...and the only player to lead his team to 3 World Cup titles. Anyway, GREAT MOVIE....you should definitely check it out. If it's not still on Netflix, it's somewhere on Amazon Prime or something. It's worth a watch.

O Pelé é o maior e melhor jogador da historia do futebol. Torci na final da copa para a Argentina, por ser Sul americano, e gostar muito do Messi, ele merece.

I'm glad you took time out to take a look at Pele although you're a Messi fan, Messi, Maradona, Renaldo and Ronaldinho are all great players, but Pele is just a complete package when one factor in him kicking with both feet equally, ball control, dribbling skills, and he was not Goal shy either, he was always going after Goals, although he was not selfish, he won three World Cups, the first one at 17years old were he scored 2 Goals in the finals, lastly he was aesthetically pleasing to watch, he's like poetry in motion, HE'S ALSO A QUICK THINKER and invented much of the modern days move just by his shear quick idea on the ball, this is why I rate him as the G.O.A.T. no disrespect to the others, but hey there's got to be one at the pinnacle.

Pele will always be the best because he did it in an era of terrible pitches , heavy footballs, and when hard savage tackling was part and parcel of the game,.....and unlike the modern players today who fall or feign injury at the slightest touch , ....you literally had to scythe him down to stop him , even then his bravery would keep him on his feet ....Pele GOAT...

And 70% of his games weren't recorded or the footage is lost forever. All you just saw is just 30% of his playing time. Let that sink in.

Its not just because we watched him play alive, it is the fact that he did 90% of the stuff that makes good offensive players nowadays before everybody else. Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, Zico...they all learned everything with someone who learned everything by Pelé. That's the reason he is the greatest of all times.
