Even back in 2007, I would say Messi. I think it is Guardiola that said it, and he's right: Messi is the best number 10 the world has seen, but he's also the best number 11, 9, 7, 8, 5... you name it. Two things most footballers don't seem to think it is anything but magic about Messi: he runs FASTER with the ball than without it, and the ball is always right at his feet (that's why defenders have such a hard time getting the ball).
