In my mind Maradona is like the Old Testament and Messi is like the New Testament in football. I believe they are the only players ever to be chosen by God Himself for His glory. Maradona was a troubled man, yes, but he was a man of faith nonetheless. I don't see Lamal as Messi's successor. Lamal is more similar to young CR7 or to Pele - super athletic for his age with an wonderful eye for goal. Lamal will be one of the greats, no doubt, but neither he or CR7 or Pele posses or have possessed that supernatural ability that Diego and Leo posses. I believe that if Messi have a successor, he will be from Argentina as well.

An instant hush fell all over the stadium, as if all those human minds needed time to really process and accept was they had just witnessed. And then, then, everybody stood up and applauded and applauded and applauded. I still can hear them. Father, may you rest in peace, thank you for taking me that night to the stadium. @@brandedforchrist You must be clueless about Diego: 1) Goals weren’t main Maradona’s game, he was an absolute a magical playmaker number 10, not a number 9 or a winger! 2) He got into addiction which played a big part into shortening his career. 3) His technical skills were unmatched and precise even the greats talked about it, you can search what he can do with the ball with some of the available rare footage. 4) The only way other players could’ve stopped him is to foul him harshly, into todays game it mostly translates into red cards. Messi couldn’t even have survived what Maradona was facing back then.

@@Trap-Joe I know the greatness of Maradona my friend, my dad told me about him and how magical he was in his prime but he still didn’t get to Messi’s level fam and my dad said the same thing, that nobody has ever gotten to Messi’s level and my dad died in 2015 so he didn’t get to see Messi from 2016-2022 when he became the ultimate player maker, he only saw Messi when he was a devastating forward.. Maradona like you said didn’t focus on goals but just okay making as a 10 but Messi focused on goals while doing all that Maradona could do in play making, Messi competed with greatest goal scorer of our time and has a better goal ratio than him as well.. Messi was also very disciplined not to have ever gotten into addiction, he has played the game at this level for over 18yrs, he has won everything there’s to be won as a player and his technical abilities is second to none in all of history only except of course for Maradona.. I believe Maradona was more gifted but Messi took football to a whole other level and that’s why he is to me the best ever

I wasn’t arguing about achievements here, or who’s a better disciplined athlete, because Diego wasn’t, he was born a genius but his ego and the bad circle of friends he had, have got him into partying and addiction. Messi has always played in the best clubs (mostly Barca) with their facilities, while Maradona has brought a low division club like Napoli at that time winning the championship twice when he joined, and winning almost single handedly the World Cup.
