I'm 45 (46 this year), and what I've noticed is that as I get older, it's not that I can't experiment as much, as some ageist institutions have claimed. It's that I've settled into my own style and learned the lay of my own features, how they've changed over the years, and what truly suits them. You're not circumscribing, you're actualising. So like, I've learned that anything remotely warm-toned is going to make me look septic, and that "Sentient Patrick Nagel Painting" is my default aesthetic. So I'm having a lot more fun with makeup now than I did in my 20s and 30s, when it was all about throwing half of Sephora at my face to see what stuck.

Hi Sam, the balance is perfection! Messy eyes need perfected skin. When I was younger (oh those grungy days) I did not need concealer and wore yesterdays smudged eyeliner with some "fresh" eyeshadow on top. And it looked stunning. Nowadays I have to tidy up more. But still love dark messy eyes.

Side note: back in the day YOU were the first person I saw online talking about anxiety and where it came from for you. Before that there wasn’t much out there (which is a contrast to more recent years) about these topics. I remember sharing your previous videos talking about it on my social media, sharing my thoughts on it and it felt like a door had finally opened. Suddenly I realised this stuff I’d experienced and was feeling had a name. I wasn’t broken, there were just issues and I needed help and support. Thanks Hannah, Tbh I didn’t realise that I had anxiety all my life. I’d never heard anyone discuss it. I knew that I struggled in large groups and in social situations with new people. I knew that I did odd things that embarrassed me and that I tried to hide (like finger and lip chewing and biting, I also space out and pull odd faces) I now understand that these things (I think they’re called stimming) are linked to anxiety. Most of the things I learned initially were from my audience Direct Messaging me. As I’ve learned more, I’ve felt less embarrassed and more comfortable to share and so I’m really happy to hear that I’ve been able to bring you some comfort and knowledge. Thank you for your comment. I agree wholeheartedly! I delved into learning more about anxiety because she spoke abt it and I could relate to that so much. Obvs it helped me find my own triggers and how to handle them as best as I can. Still have bad days but it is so much safer when you are aware what it is you are experiencing and that you can get a grip on yourself. ❤

Yes she had the balls and kindness to be one of the first to talk about it. I've read that people who suffer from anxiety and depression are usually creative artist types, they are also people who are highly sensitive, compassionate and empathetic. I think depression and anxiety is a blessing and a curse. We just don't know enough about it yet or how to harness it.

I love the messy undone look, especially after the last 4 years of *heavy* McGrath, Denona, Huda, etc. with wings, drag queen lashes, dirt brown contour, highlighter seen in outer space, dry liquid lips. I've embraced the sheer, messy undone look with my falling in love with Rituel de Fille. Their products are so unique, so multi-tasking, so easy, so beautiful! I love the look you created here. You are the queen of rocking “messy” looks, but still having it look elegant but totally bada$$ 😁 edgy yet chic. I just love it. I swear I learn something new with every single one of your videos. You are absolutely right about balance. I think with social media like IG and TikTok makeup looks are taken over the top. There is very much still an art form to those kinds of looks, but everyone loves a wearable, and not overly time consuming look as well. I still love making a statement, but now that I’m in my 30’s, when I do a look I would have done in my 20’s, I feel like I’m just trying too hard. I am still working on striking that balance.
