@@None_More_Metal They would be incorrect if they were reading directly from Tolkien's work. But it's their band name. I mean if Sunn O gets to put a silent O in their name, Cirith Ungol can pronounce the C like an S.

About Sepultura, those were the old days, it wasn't common to have bands with names in different languages, and I think that's why they pronounced Sepultura with an "English accent", in Brazil or Portugal nobody pronounces it the way it was shown in the video.

Most non-english names are somewhat easy for non-english natives, because english vowels have very different sounds for a single letter. In latin derived languages (like portuguese, spanish and italian), scandinavian languages and japanese, for examples, an A is always pronounced an open "Ah" unless it has a sign above it. So, Sepultura is "seh-pool-TOO-rah", because the U is always "oo" in portuguese. Portuguese speakers often find the pronounciation of TH hard because we don't have anything like that in our language, and the C is always soft (like in "sea") if it comes before a semivowel (E and I) and hard before a vowel (A, O and U, like in "card", "cold" or "cool"). But since Cirith Ungol comes from Tolkien's books, the correct would be "Kirith Oongol" if they want it to be accurate to Tolkien's work. Also, the Ungl'Unl'Rrlh'Chchch is from HP Lovecraft's work and it's meant to be unpronounceable as he often described his creatures as impossible to understand. And I'm glad I've always pronounced Agalloch right. XD

Cirith Ungol is a Sindarin name. It means "Cleft of the Spider". It contains the elements cirith ("cleft", "a narrow passage cut through earth or rock (like a railway cutting)") and ungol ("spider"). You can even go to the Tolkien Gateway and hear a recording of it pronounced in proper Sindarin. [ˈkiriθ ˈuŋɡol], emphasis on the first syllable of each word. In earlier drafts Cirith Ungol was called Kirith Ungol and was guarded by Minas Morgul instead of the Tower of Cirith Ungol. There are no K's in Sindarin, but there are in Quenya. It just depends on what dialect of Elvish you are speaking. ... ... ... Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

It's funny that the members of Sepultura (0:58) and Sarcófago (1:39), which are both Portuguese words, said the names like an English speaker would pronounce them. Sarcófago could actually sound like that If said by someone of some areas of Brazil, but usually not from someone from the city of Belo Horizonte, which is where both Sarcófago and Sepultura came from. It's also funny how Andreas and Igor exaggerated the letter "R" in their names. No Brazilian would actually said it like that if it wasn't in a joky way. And Max said his name as an English speaker would, which is like the opposite of what Andreas and Igor did hahahaha

Another band with an unpronunciable name is K'lëïxlbvrû'stæòrbr, a raw black metal duo (comprised of Drapt and Grau) from Timișoara, Romania, founded in 1990. Their name means The Dust of the Stars (Colbul Stelelor in romanian). They launched some demos ("Spre Țărm, Netărmurit/Towards the Shore, Undisturbed" - 1992 and "Demon Flickering in the Scrying Mirror" - 1994) and albums ("With Death I Walk" - 1993 and "Cu Sânge Rece/With Cold Blood" - 1994) an one split album ("Sharp as Sickness" - 1994) with a another band with an interesting name; Srxiklb, about which I can't find anything. Their only show was allegedly in Moscow in 1993 in front of 6-10 people. They performed their 1994 demo, unlaunched back then. The only material available from them on KZbin is 2 songs ("K'lëïxlbvrû'stæòrbr Nkliklienkl", from their 1993 album and "Cu Sânge Rece" from the album with the same name) and their 1994 demo.
