I think this album is one the best mixed albums Ive ever heard. How they get the thickness of there tone and still keep all the mid/ highs blows my mind. Its one of the few metal albums where I feel nothing is covered up and the stereo imaging is amazing. While I can see how you would think its muddy with the tone, It never is. The part your referring to also clearly has a bass synth of some kind to make it hit harder, which may also be what you are hearing.
